I’m installing the same winch this weekend. It will have a solar panel to keep the batteries topped off when the trailer is parked. I do electronics for a living, so it will also be able to charge from the truck connection when running down the road and will not back feed to the solar panel. I really like the drop-down spare tire rack on your trailer. That and the winch plate are really nice touches.

Those wires are big enough to recharge the battery?

Which ones? So far works great, slower charge from truck, but big wires for the winch

I bought a new Smittybilt for my tilt trailer, and was disappointed to read “standalone battery prohibited” in the manual. I’m not concerned because I have a big deep cycle and a solar charger, but when I emailed them they said they require 14volts. Any thoughts on that?

Interesting, I’ve run mine with stand alone often with truck on or off, usually I keep truck running. Pulled my forklift up and down a few times and seems good

@tobyandcarol - they probably have used just enough copper to get the job done. Because of this, they have to limit the current drawn by the motor at full rated load. They do this by stating that you must run it at a (relatively) higher voltage. In other words, that’s how their marketing people get to overrate the winch. So, just don’t use it at full rated load and you should be fine.
