I saw this on the "Most Boos" in the 2021 section of the Team 0% site, looked at the map, and figured "this can't be as bad as 1-1 But Bowser Has Taken Over", right?
Well I was right about that... but this course was still NO JOKE, it took a good 3 hours of grinding to figure out how to handle this! See fighting the bosses one-on-one isn't that tough... but doing it in 150 seconds with a not hit clear condition is MUCH more difficult! I'll get into my strat below in case the video isn't enough help!
General Strategy: Phanto is a nightmare, and the Angry Sun, Boom Boom, and Bowser Jr. can be surprisingly nasty too, so my goal was to take out the bosses without keys (so those 3 mentioned before) while bonking on the Koopalings a bit. I also would only take a Fire Flower when it was time to get rid of Iggy, Wendy, and Larry, because while you need the Fire Flower to kill Bowser, it makes you a bigger target for Phanto! This way, I can quickly take them out and minimize the amount of time Phanto is on the field! I'll get into my strategy a bit more step by step now.
The Beginning: It's tempting to fight these guys now, and honestly smacking Roy around a bit is probably fine... but my main goal was to bonk Morton and Ludwing twice so they can be taken out fast on the way back!
The Hidden Block: So the hidden 1-up block is here... but it gives you a Superball Flower! I actually think the Super Ball isn't all that useful... but I like to hit it anyways because it stays in place, and it gives you an extra platform to stand on to smack Ludwig on the way back later.
Angry Sun: You'll need to kill this when a Koopaling / Bowser Jr. is in a shell. Sometimes you get lucky, and Morton or Ludwig takes it out. However, there's two easier ways! First off is Lemmy: because Lemmy is where those top two Goombas normally are, you can smack him, and scroll the screen enough for the Angry Sun to get knocked out! However, if you fail at that (I would not kill Lemmy right away!), Bowser Jr. stays on the ground while shelled unless there's something blocking his way, so it's pretty easy to knock the sun out that way!
Boom-Boom: I like to avoid hitting Boom-Boom because he starts jumping when you do, and instead lure him to the pit while hitting Lemmy 1-2 times. 2 birds, one stone!
Bowser Jr: Bowser Jr. might seem simple, but if you're like me and wanna bonk the Koopalings on the head a bit... be careful, it's really easy to lose his place and get hit by a fireball while hitting another Koopaling! Don't get greedy with hitting the Koopalings, when it looks hectic, remember that Bowser Jr. will follow you much faster by going in his shell even without getting hit. While you don't need to kill Bowser Jr... his stomp and fireballs are a huge problem so you should!
Wendy: Remember that Wendy jumps when she shoots! I can't tell you how many times I've gotten killed by forgetting that in the heat of the moment!
Bowser's Fire and the Stairs: If you jump on the stairs, Bowser WILL shoot fire, and that doesn't despawn by running, so try to dodge them in a safe place! Also, there's a 1-up block on the left inside part of the stairs. This technically isn't a troll: its something from the Super Mario Bros Deluxe 1-1 Challenge Stage, which the creator mentions in the comments. Still, a really easy way to get fried by Bowser's fire if you don't remember!
The Walk Back To The Start: While I make Lemmy my 4th kill in the clear video, I actually sometimes take him out first because the balls are very good at pushing you into Phanto, so don't be afraid to do that! Remember a running jump reaches that Superball Block if you need another platform to dodge Ludwig. Just watch it, his high jump can snipe you, wait till he lands near you or is shooting!
Fire Flower and Bowser: The Fire Flower is your friend once you have 4 of the Koopalings down, feel free to shoot at them if a jump is too risky! For Bowser, I like the high ground against him, but I actually beat Bowser the first time I finally reached him so, maybe there's some more twists...
The Key Doors: The Key Doors will always be to your right, so just run and enter into them and you win!
It's funny, despite this just being "1-1 but bosses are placed where enemies normally are", I actually really liked this! This course FORCED me to get comfortable with the Koopaling patterns to succeed, and I actually think it's pretty fair once you got a grip on how to handle this in a timely fashion! Here's to finishing a tough but fun 1-1 remix!
