In my opinion, if you want to stay on the cutting edge of where photography is going, here is my story. I've been a still photographer since childhood. I'm now 63. Starting with Canon's pro cameras that offered pseudo video features, I started dabbling in video. Now with the EOS R5 and R5C, I'm VERY interested in video and the first thing I asked about SmugMug Source was "can it do Canon's Cinema Raw files? *.CRM. Canon also has *.XMF files for their XF-AVC (I think that is the right alphabet soup) files. My point is simply that "videography" is getting easier and easier and lame amateurs like me are going to want to manage their video work flow with the same apps as their still photography work flow. I know that SmugMug understands videos. I would suggest making SmugMug Source understand RAW video files. Next is VR. My next purchase is going to be Canon's RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye Lens and DJI's gimble and start making content for the Oculus. I don't think I'm leading the crowd. I think this is going to become very active very quickly. The Oculus is a $300 VR game system that is essentially today's Commodore 64. VR is going to be everywhere very quickly. I suggest get ahead of the curve now. The one question I have is about the local RAW files. So, it sounds like I keep a local copy of my RAW files and I can also upload them to SmugMug Source but if I want to twiddle with them locally with Lightroom for example, then I'm going to have to keep a local copy. What I've been wanting is essentially a cloud based NAS with intelligent caching so the RAW files appear to be local to LR but the files are actually remote. Activity on a particular file causes it to be downloaded and cached until it has not been used and is pushed out based upon a LRU type algorithm -- with the ability for the user to configure where and how big the cache is going to be. This is 1995 technology with NFS, AFS, GFS, etc but no one offers such a service to the general public. Also, one misunderstanding that you had in the video. XMP files are NOT generated automatically with LR. The data is generally stored in a database and can not be viewed externally. You can ask LR to push out the XMP files and you can also ask LR to automatically keep them updated but the default is to not produce XMP sidecar files at all. The user question was "ok, now it seems you want me to produce sidecar files whereas before the general recommendation was to not produce sidecar files". And... I don't know enough about how your plug-in works to answer that question completely.

I really want to see a feature where my associate photographers can upload raws from weddings. Will that be a feature soon?

The raw editor Capture One has a unique way to store an original raw file, along with any adjustments to it. The raw + adjustment data (stored as XML files) are all packed into a file with the extension .EIP. (The extension aside, it's in standard-issue .zip format). Does Source support this format? Thanks.

Hi James, hopefully most of this is covered in the episode. You can indeed upload and manage Raw files, as a Source subscriber, via our mobile apps.
