I'm a livescope owner, so I'm not your typical Randy Blauket livescope hater. However, say the odds of a guy snagging a fish on a spoon ripping it through a school is 10%. The guy with the livescope is more precise and keeping his spoon in the zone longer during the cast has to have his odds of snagging be higher than that. So while snagging individual fish, or even using snagging as a strategy isn't going to happen, I will say that it definitely could increase the odds of snagging in certain situations. And for guys saying its impossible, guys who go out and snag paddlefish (legally) are loving livescope. Its also so effective on muskie that some orgs are starting to ban it. While I don't think a ban is necessary for bass, with technology improvements it could get to that point eventually.

I can see where this tech helps big time on seeing if fish are there and seeing how they react to your bait. Especially if you are in water over 10’ deep. The lake I fish has every kind of structure you could dream of to fish. We have so many crappie, white bass, carp, catfish, gar, tallapia and drum that it is near impossible to use it and know exactly what is even down there. In very cold water conditions I think it is unfair to the fish but other than that I am good with this tech. Just don’t know if I will ever spend that kind of money to go catch a fish. We all been catching fish for so many years without it.

I snag Solomon here in New Mexico (it is an official method in Oct - Dec) and I dont use a lure, snagging with a lure is almost impossible. Like you said the fish will move out of the way. You need a weighed treble hook. Typically I snag them on the side or in the tail. I don't see people using live scope to intentionally snag individual fish, I use my side scan to locate them and just cast and snag (the retrieve is a fast jigging type motion) if I am on the boat; typically it is done from shoreline. And, if I understand the rules for BASS and MLF, believe its a rule in all tournaments, if the fish is not hooked in the mouth it is a foul hook and you have to release without it counting. So why would pros intentionally try to snag. Too much money on the line when the majority would be foul hooked. Another discussion I suggest is, are bass pros who use them expert fishermen, or just experts at using electronics? I would love to see a tournament series the elites have to go out with bare minimum in electronics, simular to how MLF used to do with the boats all configured the same; only the takle could be open to the angler discretion. Then we would know who the best fishermen are, or would we?

Ok. First, I'm going to raise my hand and say that I was wrong about my feelings on this. I watched some videos on Bassmaster live and it looks bad to watch a guy staring at a screen ripping a spoon with nine hooks on it. I made a judgement based on my personally not liking that style. I wasn't trolling and I didn't know better. I trust the realness of your perspective. I'm overly passionate about FISHING. I love fishing for giants as much as I love catching giants. The snagging issue never came into light, until a few BASS anglers showed up at Pickwick with the Dixie Talon spoon, that has additional treble hooks on the side. The additional trebles were there to help keep the fish from "throwing" them, and not to increase the odds of snagging. This is what you need to do Todd .... hold a tournament, where the winner is the guy that snags the most using Livescope, and Live camera using the conventional baits that are being used. The contestants all need to have a marshal filming it, in order for it to count. Show how many tournaments and hours, and guys, it takes, before someone actually snags one ....probably the only way to put speculation to rest.

@@toddcastledinefishing5924 Like I said, if a bass is fowl hooked below the Gill plate, they must be returned. I saw many bass fowl hooked with those spoons in the tail or underbelly and weighed. Just like when guys were fowl hooking bedding bass, they must now be INSIDE the mouth. A simple rule change will fix IT. Like when guys were using river boats to go where no one else could go. Now there is a minimum Length and HP requirement to prevent this. I am not calling anyone cheaters, just need to stop the fowl hooked fish from entering the bag.

I have no real opinion on the ability to snag using Livescope, but would like to give an example where it may be possible. A friend of mine fished a BASS Invitational (before Elite format) years ago at the St. Lawrence River and was paired with a recognizable big-name pro angler (name left off to prevent comments about the person). This angler won the tournament in the clear waters of Lake Ontario on smallmouth throwing a very visible suspending jerkbait with Excalibur rotating treble hooks. He caught fish that actually bit the lure and also "caught" some by, as he called it, "making them bite". What he did was when a smallmouth (or a group of them) would follow the bait but not bite, he would let the bait sit still until he couldn't see the bait anymore (because a smallmouth swam between him and the jerkbait). He would then jerk his rod back hard and many times those rotating trebles would snag the fish in its side. This may sound impossible, and I was skeptical, but my friend who was the one fishing with him successfully demonstrated the technique to me when we were jerkbait fishing for smallmouth. Now, isn't there a possibility that a similar technique can be used with Livescope?

anything’s possible I guess but after hours, 100s of hours I’ve never seen a scenario where anything like that is possible. @@toddcastledinefishing5924 I'll gladly give you the angler's name who "made them bite" so you can ask him directly, but I won't put it out in a public way. My question basically was if you can see fish (in this case smallmouth) on Livescope basically swimming around a stationary lure, couldn't the angler jerk the rod and possibly snag fish? I'm not saying that this would be your pattern but could be done to "catch" some that wouldn't bite. If you want to delete my original comment and/or this one please do so, I'd completely understand.

As you probably are aware, he is the primary driver of negging on LS (probably to get views and make coin off of doing it). I haven't asked John personally, if his video on LS snagging and the idiocy of the notion, was in direct response to Randy's video on "Are Pros Snagging Bass Using LS" video, but I have to think it entered into the equation. Crews didn't mention him by name (and probably for the same reason), but his video was much like this one. Its hard to make a video about something so ridiculous. However. the YT'er that goes by the name "Garmin Guru" did call him out by name. Incidentally, for us weekend, mere mortal, anglers, the Garmin Guru knows a ton about all Garmin gear and is able to translate it into average everyday angler language. In my opinion, Todd, you are ABSOLUTELY correct about your assertion that the vast, vast majority of people who are against LiveScope, either don't own it or have never fished in a boat that had it on the boat. Like you, I used to think people were just trolling, but over time I've figured out that the majority of people who rag on LS, really believe what they say. Tons of them actually think that if you have LS on the boat, all you have to do is roll up and reel in the bass. Crazy, but its true. I can't even begin to count the number of posts I've seen on fishing forums, FB fishing pages, YT videos, etc. where people actually say, and believe, this to be true.

It will be mildly interesting to see which way this debate goes. These reasons seem compelling. It may come down to experiments that confirm one side or the other. My concern is that the sport turns into a competition between sponsors’ pocketbooks. The solution should be that tournaments have divisions based on economics. For example, there should be a division that sets a modest limit on horsepower and type of electronics so the John Henries have a chance. If that doesn’t make sense, then eliminate all divisions because no advantage or disadvantage matters. It’s just a matter of time until the woke nuts declare the present system ”racist,” anyway.

@@toddcastledinefishing5924 Where it originates from is migratory fish species. Not resident non-migratory species such as bass. Even the large mouth, pike, musky etc. Have got the autonomy to move and change position (for example, Matt Stefan had set up to fish some large mouth on Champlain in his last Tackle Warehouse Pro competition). The wind blew in from a direction, and he thinks it may have moved the bait fish. Anyhow, during his two days fishing. He could not re-locate them. That's not the situation with migratory fish species in rivers. I don't think I've ever opened a book about migratory salmon or trout. From any part of the world. Europe or north America. And not found some paragraph in some chapter in there. Where the authors of books, in particular about salmon. Had to talk about it. Often times too, it was actual guides and folks who worked for them. It wasn't a competition thing. It was a guide thing. One of the authors on salmon from north America. I was actually surprised. One of his best guides on one of the Canadian rivers. He had to disassociate from. Owing to this reason.
@academicmailbox7798

The reason is, is that migratory fish aren't occupying feeding positions. Rather, they occupy real estate. In which there is a whole sophisticated ranked structure. Between the fish themselves. The adult fish, and the fish who are on their first ever migration from saltwater (they employ different names for junior migratory fish in different parts of the world). It all amounts to the same thing. That junior fish can be a pain, when trying to fish for adult salmon. Because the junior's sometimes race the large salmon to the bait. However, having inspected the bait (and if you read some of the north American authors on it). Often times the adult fish will inspect the bait. And reject it. It's very like what some anglers have spoken about. With small mouth bass looking at top water baits in northern lakes. They'll turn away at last minute. And it can happen several times. With migratory fish like salmon. They return back to the position they occupied. Before they moved at all. And all of the other fish line up in ranked order, behind the dominant fish. And will remain there for longer periods.
@academicmailbox7798
Жыл бұрын
Eventually what happens is the water levels rise. That shoal of migratory fish move further upstream. And a new shoal moves in to take it's place. It's so predictable. That even going back to medieval times. There were rules and legal rights. As to who was allowed the catch the fish. That would occupy the locations. They often constructed man-made 'fish trap' or compartments. Into which the salmon would swim. The monks who wanted to source protein for the dinner table of the monasteries. Had this perfected. The nuns in the convents did too in medieval England. And other places. However, you can go back a lot further. The oldest man-made structures they say. Are the fish traps that were made thousands of years ago in Australia. It is not new.

Where the foul hooking of species like salmon comes into the story. Is later on. When you had these laws and rules in place. As to ownership of who was able to 'harvest' fish in rivers. And what tended to happen. Is that guys would find intermediate places. Where fish would sometimes rest and stop. On the journey between the known major staging points. For shoals of fish. And that is where the foul hooking of fish would take place. Remember, we're going back here to a time before 'refrigeration'. Effectively the rivers operated as their own food storage systems. And it was entirely predictable. As to what places would hold fish. At which particular water levels. What's happened here with the bass. Is that a practice that was entire known about (and it exists both on the legal and criminal side of the equation). For hundreds of years. In the old days, if you foul hooked a fish that did not belong to you. It was looked at in the same way. As robbing food from someone's refrigerator. Because that is what it was.

Snag a fish with your video game set, drop a weight in its gut and enjoy your check you earned with zero skills. American dream

This is the clip I believe that started this whole debate. I can see how it looks bad. I don’t live scope so I don’t really have an opinion whether it can or can’t be done. kzitem.info/news/bejne/kniNzWF9cGl6ZYo

Oh my gosh are you serious. I watched it once and when I saw it was a crankbait I started laughing. When they are bunched up like that they are hitting the bait. We get this all the time where we have multiple hits like that on the same cast and we eventually catch one. Nothing about that screams snagging or livescope, plus it was caught right by the mouth. This is about as normal as it comes.

Fishing is.not a sport. Electronics has changed that. You’ don’t have to fish, but look 👀 for them on your that scope. THEN SNAG IT. When 200 dollars are at stake. You will keep him, too make it rich.

No live scope for me. Takes the fun out of it. It’s the hunt that matters. Skills to catch em. Live scope is like using a drone to find em and putting out bait waiting for a deer. What’s next remote control baits with virtual goggles? Come on man.

I’ve been holding out for an AI-driven submersible that locates the biggest fish and shoots a hook into its mouth. But your idea of VR goggles made me slap my forehead. Why didn’t I think of that?

I think Randy Blaukat has complained so much about Live scope I rarely watch him anymore. It got really tedious. I don't have the guts to tell my wife I'm going to get $25,000 worth of electronics. Snagging happens with or without Livescope. Really a tempest in a teapot... Tournament fishermen love to complain, however...

Here is my thoughts on electronics in pro fishing. I don't believe that electronics beyond traditional down scan and side scan should be allowed peorid, these guys are considered pro for a reason and shouldn't need all this new technology to be proficient in the sport. That is just how I feel about it. I hope that in the near future they will not allow any beyond the 2 features that I mentioned above. If you need live scope then I don't consider you as professional at all.

Some of the livescope haters just want to believe anything that makes livescope look bad. Common sense doesn't enter the equation for a lot of them.

One person is spreading hate for LiveScope and electronics. Randy Blanket. Randy is spreading class warfare on electronics and anglers who have money. Randy tells his followers about how LiveScope is killing the professional tournament's. His reason is LiveScope takes the skill out of fishing. This is so far from the truth. Anglers on a professional level got there because of their brains. Theses guys and gals can find fish without LiveScope. It's just a tool. Watch some of his videos from the past two days. He is using class warfare to say rich people have an unfair advantage. He is nuts.
