I went to the village plant fair a couple of months ago, and most of the plants the gardening club were selling were garden plants. However, there was a houseplant table, and on the floor next to it, were some large Snake plants, that a lady had divided from her huge snake plant that she has had for many years. I bought one. It's currently got 5 leaves so far, but because it was from a mature plant, the tallest is about 5ft! It was only £4 (about $5), so I thought it was a real bargain.😎

I agree with them doing better in brighter light. They will live, but mine was NOT HAPPY in my darker room. As soon as I moved it to a sunny window with indirect light, boom. It started to flourish. Love your videos, thank you for this one! 🙌

I love how you explain thats why I subscribed on first time seeing your videos I do want to mention with snake plants you can cut a leaf into several pieces and root them in water so you can get 5-6-7 or more plants from one leaf

Great info Devin! In zone 8 and 9, you can put the propagated pot on a covered porch that receives plenty of light. Two years ago, I did this with two pots ( they were placed on both sides of the front door). Now I have 2 gigantic planters in the house where the sansiveria stands 45 inches tall! LOL. I did cover them with blankets when we had an occasional freeze and sometimes moved them into the garage when bad weather was approaching. Once you move it into the house, I recommend changing out the soil, and sprinkling the top of soil with cinnamon. The cinnamon keeps the fruit flies away should one come in with the grocery produce. I top it off with sphagnum moss from dollar tree, or aquarium pebbles for a finished look.

Can you clarify the soil that is best? You mentioned any houseplant soil, but if it's a succulent, doesn't it need cactus/succulent soil for good drainage?
@plantvibrations
Жыл бұрын
Normally the cactus mix is a bit more expensive. It would do well in that or just an ordinary houseplant mix would be fine too

Mine started rotting. Are ceramic pots bad for them?

Your plant or cutting started rotting? Ceramic pots should be fine as long as they have drainage holes
@deepalibhatt9010

@@plantvibrations Yes the leaves turned gel-like. The roots were fine though I don't know what happened. I pulled it out of the pot and the soil came out in the shape of the pot with good roots, but the leaves just started falling off and the plant was all over the place in no time🥲. I watered it fortnightly. I thought the ceramic pot was holding too much moisture as opposed to the terracotta. I have been scared of using ceramic pots since then.

@@plantvibrations The plant started rotting not the cuttings. I had purchased it from a nursery.

@@deepalibhatt9010 if the roots were wrapping around the pot and were not mushy then doesn’t sound like that was the issue. Did you place it in a lot of sun all at once perhaps? Hard to say from your description

@@plantvibrations I kept it in indirect sunlight and never in the sun. Maybe it didn't like the air conditioning or needed more sun.
