I find it kind of odd that someone with Snap-On tools doesn't know what a breaker bar is for.

I always used a breaker bar until I got my 18" long 3/8 flex head Snap On ratchet. This video gave me confidence as to how strong it is: kzitem.info/news/bejne/knywv6WGbXx3q44

I don't care how good Snap-On is. I'd rather not risk breaking it. I'd just assume to take the little bit of extra time and start with a breaker bar. Rather than risk breaking a rachet. Better yet, after breaking the fastener free, finish removing it with a cordless ratchet.

I have some Duralast tools. I've broken a few. But I was able to go to Auto Zone and swap them out in a few minutes without any hassle. Tool truck shows up once a week if you're lucky. Might not have a replacement. And costs around 10 times the price. Don't get me wrong. Certain tools you need quality. But other ones you need easy replacements

Why are you using a ratchet when you clearly should have been using a breaker bar? Are you a real mechanic, or a tool tester?
@james10739
3 ай бұрын
Well obviously the answer is you should have been using 1/2 inch but it says something about snap on quality I forget what 3/8 is supposed to be rated for but I bet if you were not expeding that nothing would have broke

What makes it a knockoff?😂 It's a ratchet that doesn't make it a knockoff. I have beat the shit out of my old Craftsman so Snap On must be a knockoff. Hit it with a deadblow for years along with using a jack handle as a cheater.

I can guarantee I can snap that Snap-on ratchet like it's made of butter. Quality is relative to the task you are performing. What I see is you should have been using a 1/2" breaker bar and a good socket. The power torque ratchet broke in a way that makes it repairable. Depending on the socket. I might want the wrench to fail and not the socket. Particularly since the power torque should have a lifetime warranty you can use. No waiting on a fap-off truck to arrive to maybe warranty the snap-on ratchet. I still need to warranty my 1/2" S•K ratchet. I snapped the head clean in half. The anvil was left completely intact. I snapped it while using my bare hands. I didn't use any leverage enhancing device. Metal fatigue is also something to keep in mind. It might not be the tool's fault. It might be too old.

What were you trying to break loose with a long handled ratchet which clearly increases the leverage and a nano socket we all know you should be using a breaker bar. I just don’t get some of your videos. How could they be educational for the next generation? Maybe you should think about that

How about you get the proper tool for the task. At this point you should be using a 1/2" drive socket and a breaker bar or atleast a long handle 1/2" anvil heavy duty ratchet. That fastener is obviously very tight and\or rusted\locktighted, so using heat is necessary after breaking all this other stuff first. Heat it up, lube it up with penetrant, 1/2" drive impact socket & breaker bar(give it seversl blows w\ bfh to shock it when socket is on nut)....it will come right off!🤔👍🏻💪🏻👌🏻🛠️🔩🔧💨⚠️🚧🏗️🦺😄🇺🇸

Thing is not the Snapon ratchet cuz it could have broken also just as I’ve seen happen but the Astro is a low profile socket not made for high torque even though in certain circumstances it can but you shouldn’t thus why we have other sockets for the occasion. So yeah I think it was a bad demo on that part. Also if you had maybe used the socket around the 17mm part of the socket most likely wouldn’t have broke. 🤷🏾 JS

I have a 1/2 inch ratchet from OReillys. Just the other day I put my jack handle over it to get a bolt that was probably around 200 ft pounds. It didn’t break. I tried a breaker bar, but I couldn’t get the angle with the 6 point socket. And couldn’t get my impact in there. Shit happens sometimes.

You can talk about quality of tools all you but the people who always choose hb over snapon either dont have to wrench for a living or they cant afford it because they work on small shit. Either way ive pushed any hb tools to the limits that my snapon has been put through. Id have to replace the shit 100 times over or more by now and by the way i work on heavy duty equipment and tractor trailers. Occasionally ill work on gassers and full electric shit

Looks to me like if you really need to reef on those low-profile sockets, you might want to sacrifice a cheap 6pt box wrench to reinforce it. Chop off the box end, install it over the hex portion of the socket, then install the assembly on the ratchet.
