Today we look at a way of taking a “high head” position with our partner from the seated position. It leads us right into the loop choke, one of the strongest front attacks we have in the gi. The corollary is the front headlock for no gi. When we’re working with the gi, we have the added advantage of the collar, which serves as a rope around the neck, to wrap and control a partner (and to submit them).
Rather than trying to launch ourselves up into a partner who’s higher than we are, we use the snap down with the cross-collar to bring them to our level. From there, we have a smooth entry into the loop and we’re ready to finish.
