We probably wouldn't have anything left to catch without these guys, without these guys our waters will be barren, me for one have seen some seriously greedy people in my years of going to the beach, like without these guys to check people and put the pressure on our waters would of been fished barren long ago

It's unfortunate to hear that poaching activities are also a concern in Cape Town. The preservation of marine life is a global challenge. Let's hope for strengthened efforts and awareness worldwide to protect our oceans and its precious inhabitants.

People want to take more than the daily limit then they should take more divers out with them and do things properly to be fair for future generations to enjoy for centuries to come! Seafood permits are also available in certain situations i.e for funerals, large gatherings, weddings etc if you do your homework so please please please adhere and stick to the guidelines that we all have to here in New Zealand so let’s keep it tidy yeah! Quotas are allocated to certain commercial fishers after the civilian quota has been allowed for. Civilians get their quota first then comms get theirs. There's no where near as many commercial divers as rec divers. Not that I'm a fan of commercial fishing. I think it should only be rec. if you want fish get it yourself. But that's the law and poachers are just greedy , entitled pricks who think they are above the law and above other NZ citizens

Back in the late sixties early seventies my mum and dad use to (during summer) take me my brother and sister too the beach on the east coast of Auckland before there we’re any coastal reserves. We use to start at cockle bay gathering cockles then army bay for Kina or Paua if there were any ,then lee beach for more Kina then back to long bay for pipi and then we were allowed to go for a swim which by that time we were sick of sea food gathering .We would then go home and my mum would then process our kai putting it into plastic containers then the freezer but making sure to cook some for our dinner .my mother would cook the rest later usually during the winter period (what a joy when coming home from school to smell sea food cooking)there never seem to be anybody at the beach gathering but that changed in later years when immigration became the norm and slowly but surely the kai disappeared now we have no choice but pay thru the nose for the same thing .I hear the words for our “next generation “well I was that next generation and we did the right thing by not being greedy not people of today though ,but when you see how much they charge in the supermarkets and fish mongers it’s no wonder why people are rapeing the sea or is that just what I see .

It was great how you handled that Sovereign citizen. He was playing word games by saying that he was on the water and not in it. They also like to say that they don't understand the law because they don't stand under the law. It also makes me laugh when they try to use US laws in Australia and other countries. Unfortunately, they are becoming a very dangerous group. They need to be taken more seriously and punished to the full extent of the law. If they don't want to follow the laws they shouldn't have their freedom.
