The main reason for this upload is to document my work for myself, but I figured I might as well make it public since it could be interesting to others.
I recently bought a Super Nintendo that had some weird graphical issues. After some research I found out that this was due to a problem known as "PPU rot".
The PPU is what handles the graphics in the SNES. PPU1 generally for background graphics, PPU2 for Sprites.
I was able to salvage a PPU 1 chip from another SNES I had that most likely has a dead CPU.
Unfortunately this fix won't last forever, since this PPU will eventually suffer from the same issue. I hope that one day we'll be able to make / purchase third party solutions to these chips to keep these historic consoles alive.
