Why am i loving the chainsaw mill way morr than the bandsaw ? My engineering mind LOVES the simplicity of it! Sooo cool! Plan to build me one this month :)

carytowncat Small band saws with 32 mm blades are suffering from wavy cuts when the blade becomes dull and unsharp, and big saws with 75 mm blades become rather costly , cutting into a nail with a chainsaw are not a catastrophe the chain are often repaired in a couple off minutes 👍

We actually newer had a Chain-shot in nearly 30 years, but had on or two broken (thin 6mm pico chains) and they were caught by the safety U bracket mounted on the bar root together with the saw-bar nuts, but newer on a 3/8 standard Oregon ripping chain they are pretty 💪 strong. Hello Svend, incredible mill you've built yourself there! I was hoping you could further explain how you force your motor to run at 100% overload? I've read previous comments and if I understand correctly you run a 30 amp breaker. So 15Kw (7.5Kw x 2) at 230v should trip that breaker quite quickly shouldn't it?
@Svendus
3 жыл бұрын
The motor is a AGUS 55+ 400 volt industrial, that means it is built to run with 55% overload continuously on the mill it runs intermittent 100% overload and you do not have any asynchrony sound that normally are heard from 3 phase overloading the motor are protected with temperature censors in the the winding of the motor the motor become warm but not hot and it cools down when the clutch are free and not connected to the saw chain it has actuality newer switched off do to overheating.

Note! to get up the chain saw speed, a big motor wont do alone You have to modify the saw chain riders from 0,65 mm to 1mm tighten the chain tension and lubricate the nose wheel from within the needle bearing

Hi Svend, great machine you've built there, well done. Could you explain to me what you mean by 'riders' or what part of the chain these are ?
@Svendus
4 жыл бұрын
Chris Dunham Depth gauges, "riders," or "rakers," as they are sometimes called, control the amount of wood severed by a cutter tooth. During the life of a pro saw chain, they occasionally need maintenance for top cutting performance. ... Each time the chain is sharpened, the top corner of the cutter tooth gets lower

We sharpen the chain when the sawdust become just dust there are no fast roules it depends on the wood and how dirty the bark on the log are
@melvinjohnson7981
Жыл бұрын
It's the same on my Bandsaw, but I didn't want to have to sharpen a chain after every log. That may or may not be the case on a chainsaw mill, I just honestly don't know about them? But, thought they might work well? May be easier to sharpen while in the field? You've got a really nice mill.
