White Sands National Park in the Tularosa Basin of New Mexico is a truly unique phenomenon - and a stunning sight to see. This 273sq mile field of pure, white gypsum crystals has been blown into this collection of dunes over a period of roughly 12,000 years. It is about 30ft deep, with dunes peaking at 60ft in places, and looks for all the world like deep snow. It even has sledding on the bigger dunes! It really challenges the visual senses to see it as sand and, with the wind blowing, it looks exactly like a blizzard. It is the largest gypsum dunefield on Earth and one of the strangest things we've seen on our Year On The Road RV journey.
