Some people think this is about people overcoming storms in our lives, but actually, I think it's about someone becoming entranced with how this person is so in their element in the midst of trouble, whether that's a real storm, or a metaphorical one. and how it inspires them to fight against the odds too.

Don't you just love it when art breaks the mould? When I was in grade school, I hated poetry. HATED IT. Then one day, in Grade 9 English, my teacher did something extrordinary. She said to ignore every single rule. To cross all the lines. To write exactly what our hearts told us to. To view form as a challenge - not a binding - and to be unafraid of making our own challenges if we didn't like the ones provided. She gave us some music to listen to us and just let us run with it. I wrote some of the most beautiful stories of my life that day, just because someone set me free. You don't need to follow. You don't need to obey the inanimate. You don't need to rhyme, or conform, or shut up, or sit down. You need to just let go, *and go.*

Shannon Terleski See, it's stuff like this that makes me want to keep writing. I believe art is anything that connects two souls, bringing them together as one. To some, I am no artist. I can't paint. I can't draw. I can't sculpt, compose, craft, or even doodle much more than sticks and lines with smiles adorning their circle. But what I *can* do is write. To me, art is anything that moves you... compels you. Anything I could ever do to pull someone out of their own mind, drawing them into mine for even a moment. Art is anything - anything at all - that gives me but a fleeting chance to show the world the little universe in my mind. To tell the world the way it ebbs and flows, dancing in the air between blades of grass, or rushing out into a canyon's impossible expanse, or cowering behind my heart when courage alone drives me. I feel it at night sometimes. I feel it as it swirls in the world around me, projecting its universe into my reality and giggling in its delights, yet softly looking back at me every now and again, requesting release. And sometimes I can let it go... but sometimes it becomes trapped in my hands. Those are the days I hate the most. I've tried drawing it out, only to watch my pencil lines trip over eachother and fall to a scrawl of graphite. I try to act and dictate it out, but the words slip from my tongue and fumble across my fingertips. My gosh... I wish you could've felt me on the day I found out how to let it escape... the day someone let me know that I could write. My grade nine teacher - still my favourite - gave us a song and told us to let loose. She told us (although more eloquently) to screw the rules and just let it all come out. We had one class, so she put the song on loop... and I just let go. It was liberating, really. I assumed the exercise was a game, ignoring the rubric too. Imagine my surprise when I read my story to the class only to hear the echo of my own voice on the last line. My own echo! I'm not sure who was more stunned... them or myself. But my teacher teared up, and from the back of the class, all I heard was "Well, s***, nobody's gonna go after that." from a boy I thought was my enemy. We laughed together... and I never forgot. That was the day I learned how to let go. It was through twenty-six symbols, strung together like the net of stars that blanket the Earth as I watch in amazement from trillions of years beyond. My secret, as it turned out, was not to tell others of my world through their eyes, but through their mind themselves. After all, the eyes deceive and the ears mishear, yet the simplicity of language is the one medium that can slip to the mind unaltered. Think about it. Are you not looking at a mess of black sticks on a white screen right now? Yet are you not in my mind? Can you feel me, right now, as I feel myself? This, my friend, is why I write. This is my magic. This is my life. This is how I open the eyes of others to my own little world, once transparently exclusive to none other than myself. With my words, I can set my world alight. Alight; alight like the stars and the streetlights and the fireflies of a child's dream. This is how I come alive.

Agreed save for the "real instruments" part. Synthesized and electronic music can have the same depth and beauty as a full band. Look up "Collide" by VNV Nation, "Wait" by M83, or "Sea of Voices" by Porter Robinson. The insistence that music has to have traditional instrumentation in order to be good is shooting yourself in the foot.

You know how people say "You can't love someone without loving yourself first" ? Well that's my interpretation for this song. We're going through our journey of chaos, destruction and heartbreak to seek purpose and self love until we can find "the one", that will love us just the right way, the way expect it and deserve it, and for who we truly are. But the more I'm getting through this "storm", the more I've found myself wondering.. what if there was no one for me ? What if I'm not and never will be good enough for anyone ? And that's where "What if the storm ends and I don't see YOU ?" hits me the hardest. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I believe the story of this song is that someone lost somebody very special to them, and they are talking about it. But they are tired of running away from the past, and are going to find that friend. But they are scared, because what if the storm they are running into ends... and they're not there. They're gone forever. But that's the chance they have to take. To win back a friend.

'Be the lightning in me that strikes relentless'. The first time I heard those lines I immediately knew that not only was this a great song, but a great band as well. The shameful part? The "Fifty Shades of Grey" Pseudo-trailer brought me here. There. I said it. Friggin' awesome song.

The song and the lyrics is so beautiful, it makes me cry a lil bit, its like the moment before the end of the world, the sky is dark the storm is coming, I want to see you though we have been apart, I won't run but I want you to be in my heart, my memories won't fade, such deep meaning in every word TT^TT''''

I remember replaying this song again and again two years ago while doing my English Alevel coursework on Edgar Allan Poe. I can't help but think of his every time I listen to this song now.

I'm glad there are other smart people in this world. Thank you. I actually learned about this song by listening to it when the album came out. So the movie really has no relevance to it in my book.

Thank you for sharing that wonderful fact of information and wisdom on an a completely unrelated topic :). Now I will pretend that I didn't read your comment which just broke my mind and opened it up in a whole new era of adventurous thoughts, even though you touched light on a very delicate topic.

My friend, this song symbolizes the love of a woman, this love is then lost through the trials of time and separation. The song speaks about what its like to miss something so important along with the feelings of loss and sadness in its absence, and what it would be like to see this beautiful memory after it has changed through the ages. It also talks about him finding this woman again after having lost her. How sweet.

Its all about the hard times we go through and this man not wanting to lose sight of the way his relationship was in the beginning. Not wanting to run from the truth of change. "What if the storm ends, and I don't see you, as you are now. The perfect halo" Something beautiful can come from the darkest situations.
