Also, I don't know how big your DEF tank is but it might be a good idea to carry a gallon to a gallon and a half on the truck during winter months. In extreme cold, the DEF pumps freeze and then jugs sell out quick (don't ask me how I know, just trust me). Having an emergency supply onboard will keep you from being stranded. For my semi, I carry a 2.5 gal jug and that usually gets me about 1K miles.

Thats how I do my cords, but never thought to change the coil pattern with the hose. I'll give it a try when it gets warmer. This hose was very stiff and likes to stay in it's originally packaged coil. It's a stiff hose even when its warm out, but if change the coil, put some velcro straps on it and lay it in the sun, it might stay that way. Thanks for the tip! Thanks for the video, was fun seeing you guys drive through my home state. Just remember, Jackson isn't really WY ;) It's more like a little annex of California in the middle of our state. Our winters can be brutal for sure, but we actually get less snow than you'd think. We tend to have 3-4 major storms over winter, essentially getting it all in one lump sum. The worst of it is the WIND. It's nothing to see 50-70 mph winds for days at a time. Gets really aggravating and can making driving really difficult. Semi trucks get blown over all the time.

It only takes about ten minutes to warm our Cirrus up. It worked for us at minus eleven in Yellowstone and it’s safe for indoor use with the kitchen window cracked open. Once everything is up to temperature we shut it off. Safe travels and hope you can make it to the Truck Camper Rally.

Best of luck!

Hey Scott I read that you won the truck camper magazine calendar contest. That’s great. I will definitely be buying a copy when it comes out. It’s so nice watching you folks so we can learn from your experience in your truck and camper. If you’re travelling much in the cold put some quality diesel fuel conditioner in your tank. Diesel fuel can gel in the cold and the conditioner takes care of any water freezing in your lines. Today we put an order in for a 2022 Lance 1172 truck camper, largest model Lance makes. We picked out our options and colours paid the deposit. We traded our Lance 992 in on it. The camper will be ready sometime in late March next year. Looking forward to it. Safe travels my friends.

We were very excited to hear that we got a spot in the calendar! Thanks for following our adventures, it's pretty fun sharing it here on KZitem 😎 Thanks for the tips, we haven't spent much time in the cold with our truck. I do use treatments from time to time, but I'll be looking at anti-gel treatments. I haven't had a problem, but I'm very familiar with what can happen. We are in a warmer location now, and plan to steer clear of the harsh cold if we can. Congrats on your camper purchase! Sometimes I dream of a nice big camper, but there are always tradeoffs. Those 1172s are impressive! Safe travels to you too!

Great video. One idea: Get one of those 1/2 gal pump sprayers from nearly most box stores to use for many purposes. ($6-12) We use outside hand wash, clean muddy tires, fire pit extinguisher, even wash back steps/door. Has an adjustable spray tip to direct fog or straight stream as desired. Bonus idea: Bought propane sensor at Ace to watch out level. (Mopeka $35) monitoring by Bluetooth. Went to bed at 11% with lows at 35° and now at 1% on day 3. Ready to switch tanks soon as it empties or at bedtime. Safe journey!

If you get mud in the tires often and it causes road vibration, always carry along some windshield washer fluid and some of those silicone rubber spatulas from the kitchen. Gets into the cured channels of the rim and won’t scratch (if you don’t scrape really hard pressing the rocks in the mud into the finish). You only need a small amount of the WW fluid for it to release when frozen. 😎

What apps do you use to find water? Dog park, is a new one to me..... Great idea!

We mostly use iOverlander. It shows water, dump stations, as well as great boondocking sites and campgrounds. We also use apps like Campendium (for cell service) and RVparky (for places to stay).

Here is a suggestion to stop your bike rack to rattle so much. You need two short ratchet tie downs. Take one go from you tow hook on your truck to one end of your bike rack and use the other one for the other side.
@Stonyboot
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I did something similar using turnbuckles from a hardware store. It has helped tremendously. The bike rack itself is starting to wear out and I have a ratchet strap keeping tension on it to stop it from wobbling. After 50k miles, I can't really complain.

We have an exhaust brake which is different from a compression release engine brake (jake brake). They both slow ya down though.

Welcome to Wyoming, you two...and oh yeah, it's now November. The 'W' in Wyoming stands for wind. And then you settled in at 9,000' elevation? In November, in Wyoming. You were fortunate the snowfall was negligible. For me, two details that were enjoyed: Sasha, that's a nice sweatshirt with a great message. And somehow, I missed your license plate in the past. Says it all...

No glow plugs on a Cummins diesel. It uses a heated grid under the intake manifold. That heated steering wheel is a great thing to have up there
@Stonyboot
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It's just force of habit with the glow plug reference. The grid heaters are such an improvement, I'll try to remember the correct terminology next time :) And yes, the heated steering wheel, heated seats and ventilated seats are much nicer and more useful than we ever expected. They are features that I'd really like to have in our next truck in the future!

Hey big guy next time go get some six by eight tarps or probably 10x10 tarps or run over top of them look at tires and stay put your truck right in the middle of the tarps and then clean your tires off and then you can move the mud wherever you want big guy good luck

Get an Olympian heater! I have a Wave 3 for my 8.6 Lance. They sip gas, with cooking, heat, and fridge I refill every two weeks during the winter. I imagine you have an on board generator on that rig? On demand electric water, your propane use would be cut more than half
@Stonyboot

They are nice, but we don't see cold weather enough to worry about it. We've been in the cold for about 6 weeks, but we will be heading to warmer areas soon. Our Alde does what we need. Propane is easy to find and keeps our life simple for now. If we planned to spend more time in cold areas, I would definitely invest in a supplemental heating system!

Next time you're Walmart grab a 200 count box of surgical gloves. Then just slip a pair of those on before you start fueling, and when you're done, peel them off, throw them away, you're good.

That's my normal, but I ran out and forgot to get new ones. I usually go for the vinyl gloves, or the black gloves for oil/gas/etc. I later found my stash of "Fuleling gloves" in my center console.

That was the plan, but the only car wash within about 3 hours was too short for us to fit. So a little water and my fingers did the trick. I'm really looking forward to getting to warmer, drier areas and getting the rig washed and waxed, she's over due!

Oh man you were lucky to get out of that mud! Wow! Another story to tell the grandkids some day right? Keeps some rubber work gloves handy for fueling up, much better than cleaning it of your hands. As far as that lower load stabilizer and using those nylon lock nuts -try a grade 8 bolt and nut with some loctite. Those nylon locking nuts are not meant for that type of application the nylon insert will just keep failing.
@Stonyboot
2 жыл бұрын
I always have fuel gloves stashed in my door, but I ran out and need to restock. The real problem is with the sulphur smelling additive in propane. Sometimes, when they vent the propane while removing the nozzle, it gets all over the tank. I agree with the loctite, but I'm still perplexed, the driver side stableload never moves, the passenger side does. this is the second time in 50k miles, so I'm not upset, but I'm still wondering why it twists. We are high in the mountains of Washington, but I'll be making a stop at a hardware store soon to fix a few things. I just need to find the right sized bolt. I'll put some loctite on it and call it a day. Thanks for the comment, it reminded me about the bolt!
