I'd to film hoof trimming in the future. Our hoof trimmer comes to the farm every other week.

SCC is the amount of white blood cells in the milk. White blood cells will protect the body against all kinds of deceases. So if you have a high scc, lots of white blood cells the cow will have some kind of bacteria in her milk.

I don't see brisket bars in the front of the stalls. Won't that be a reason cows where getting too far forward and having trouble getting up. It also would allow them to soil the backs of the stalls a great deal more. There also seem to be many cows perching --just front feet up in the stalls. They say that indicates cows are not comfortable in the stalls.

Brisket bars would've been an option to help guide the cows in the stalls instead of switching to sand, but I'm not a big fan of them. They can impede on the lunge space cows need to get up. Since switching to sand bedding, we haven't had issues with cows lying too far forward in the stalls. These cows were just moved from one side of the pen to the other and then back again to clean the manure alleys. They didn't have much time to lie down yet.

Happy Birthday Eli! Hope it's a good one! Hey Piet, do you prefer the bucket on the loader, a snow plow blade or a snow blower to move deep snow? I would think a snow plow mounted on an old pick up could move more snow than the loader with a bucket.
@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
Жыл бұрын
I prefer a bucket because it's more versatile. We do have a snow plow blade for a tractor that I'll use to move snow further away from driveways. I don't have any experience with a snow blower.

A few months ago you were toying with the idea of raising your Holstein beef cross calves. Did you pursue that and if so do you have any feedback on that? Watching this video when you're talk about the sand our local dairy equipment dealer is going to start the install of our sand cannon monday. Looking forward to trying to reclaim 99%🤔🤣

No plans in the near future, but something I'd like to do at some point. It took us probably 10 years and many changes and upgrades before we had our sand separation system working like we wanted it too.

@@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047 We have a150 ' sand lane now. Fairly labor intensive if you want a dry clean product to reuse but the main reason for going to the sand cannon is the amount of water it takes to get a good clean product

So I know nothing about dairy stuff but growing up in the valley there does beet pulp have any nutritional gain or is it useless in dairy. Have friends that feed it to there beef cattle so just made me curious. New here so maybe you've covered it some where and I haven't seen lol. Love watching the videos.
