Cheers, Lanthan. ^^ PS: Oh, one thing, just in case you try to get a similar sound. ;) I've edited the audio of the video a little before I uploaded it, and one change I made was to chose a different setting on the ST. The audio you hear was actually effected with the "Infinity" algorithm, not the "Spatium" one like it reads on the screen in the video.

Just discovered your channel, insane work, I really appreciate your sounds and compositions. If I may, would you have any tips on how you achieve such sweet fm sounds? I'm new to this but am trying hard, and no matter what I do I always either get a veeery slightly modulated sinewave, either a total metallic mess... I'm operating on the Synthstrom Deluge so I only have two oscillators and two carriers, but am sure I'm missing something here, your xylophone-ish sounds are so sweet... Great work again!
@LanthanOIde
4 жыл бұрын
Well thank you very much! I'm very happy to hear you enjoy it! :D Hm, one tip is to use your envelopes to make the modulation fade away over time. So the tone is more metallic at the start, and gets more pure at the end. Playing around with the decay of your modulators can shape your tone quite nicely.

Hello, I'm a guitarist and I'm new to the synth world. Loving your moody music. About the Specular Tempus pedal: any plugin effect that would replicate its effects or is it just a hardware thing? Looks pretty expensive but I guess it's why it sounds so good 😉

I'm not aware of a software plugin that sounds EXACTLY the same. If you're looking for a plugin, I personally really like one called "EpicVerb". It's free, actually. I've used it a lot on my album "Travellers in a frozen land", which you can find on KZitem if you'd like to listen to it.

A beautiful enchanting tune. Please tell me, the continuous background tune that starts when you pressed play on the QY. Was this produced by the QY itself and is it enhanced in any way by the Blofeld?
@LanthanOIde
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! To answer your question: The QY does not produce the actual sound. Instead, it sends instructions to the Blofeld as to what notes it should play. The Blofeld then follows these instructions, and that's where the sound comes from.
@davidvranch821
4 жыл бұрын
Lanthan O'Ide Thanks for the reply Lanthan. So you use the QY as a Midi controller, just as the Keystep is used and create a sequence which is then played back, and accompany it using the Keystep, have I got that right? Are they both on the same Midi channel or separate. Sorry for all the questions, all new to me and would love to try myself.
@LanthanOIde
4 жыл бұрын
No problem, I'm always happy to help. ^^ Yes, you're right. The QY "pretends" to be a MIDI controller, and I can just jam along on the Keystep. They are set to different MIDI channels, so that the Blofeld knows which notes it should play with which patch.

Incredible patch! Really chimey and bright without being harsh. I've had my Blofeld for over a year and haven't been able to make any straight up keys patches that sound nearly this good. Any tips on this sound in particular that you'd be willing to give away? Filter settings, waveform/table combos etc?
@LanthanOIde
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think I used the "FM Piano" wavetable. One thing I found out is that this and many other wavetables are brighter when PW is set to 127, and warmer when it is set to zero. So you can use an EG to sweep through the wavetable to make it sound "bell-ish". If you find the sound to harsh use a LPF to remove unwanted overtones. Of course you can add another oscillator with a sine or triangle wave if you want more low-end. For velocity sensitivity, have it modulate the wavetable position or filter cutoff. Hope that helps! :)

Hi, thanks! Ok, I'm gonna start my answer by making shure we are talking about the same genre when we say "Berlin School". Here's the definition I'm using: electronicmusic.wikia.com/wiki/Berlin_School I'd say the key aspects that make this song "Berlin school" are the continous sequencer line, melodic playing and improvising on top of the sequencer line, minimal percussion and atmospheric effects.

Thanks! You mean "modulation" as in "changing to another key", right? I agree, that often helps to make a composition more interesting. However, I've not yet mastered how to employ them, so every time I try to modulate my song starts to sound like "Neverending Story"... ^^ Oh, but if you mean "modulation" as in "frequency modulation" (very, very fast vibrato) then I believe I've already put some in there. ;-)
@AudioPervert1

@@LanthanOIde Hi and thanks for the reply. What I basically meant was that subtle and continuous modulation makes these sounds (the bell, FM type tones) explore the vast harmonic (and inharmonic) range : Also tuning and detuning gets us to bizarre places/ anomalies. However its a matter of choice ... You must try the Blofeld editor, which can send unlimited CC changes to the synth via USB. With multiple changes (instead of two hands) the sound is always evolving in little or extreme bits (depends how you like it) Enjoy. I love the Blofeld too!
