NOTE at 35:36 that is not how the cable nipple goes in there. The "drum" shaped nipple sits in both the holes perpendicular to the rod to pivot in them as the lever is operated and the cable in the slot. How you have it fitted the cable will be too tight and thus the pump will over oil causing excess smoke and possible spark plug fouling. More importantly the way you have it may cause the cable to fray and break at the lever end or even fall out and you wont notice it then the pump will be stuck on idling position and not increase oiling at higher RPM which will result in a lack of oiling and piston failure and or bearing failure leaving you with a toasted seized engine good for scrap only. Also, the new head gasket is not the same as the old one that had very small water through holes in it to the front side of the engine that you put on backwards when you removed the head.(see my other comments on those videos) Likewise in the central jacket holes that are now open in the new gasket and not small holes. Those small holes likely serve a purpose in directing water flow across the head in one preferred direction. Double check that new gasket is the right one for the model.

Sam, there’s a bleed zirk under the domed rubber cap on the brake caliper. You’re likely 90% ok bleeding with the banjo fitting, but that bleed fitting is what you want to use. Love that you are doing your own content! Appreciate it.

Sam, GJ on diving in to the project head first. FYI, the cable at 35:32 is slightly incorrectly installed. you'll need to rotate the lever to where the notch allows the cable in as you slide the nub thing to sits into the two holes. i hope that's clear, i'd share a photo but you know.. youtube comments hahaha but I'm sure you can find a photo or example. as it sits now, the cable will wear and break much sooner. cheers

Not sure if its been mentioned, there is a bleeder on the oil pump that should be opened to allow the oil to fill the pump cavity after opening. Looks like someone already mentioned the brake bleeder screw on the brake caliper as well. Good Luck!

Hey Samantha. Good Job! At TS 11:35 of your video there are two small screws with black rubber caps on top of the brake caliper. These are the bleeding screws. They are at the very end of the line, right at the piston of the brake! Put a small hose over it and bleeding is easier. And right, the brake fluid needs to be below the rubber of the reservoir, not on top of it. Tom 😎

You might need to re-bleed the coolant system after the hose popped off. Also it appears to me the throttle cable might have been hooked up incorrectly. The barrel at the end of the cable should fit in the hole instead of being passed through it. As it is now you could experience a higher than normal idle and premature wear on the cable end. If you have been around motorcycles it would be similar to the way the brake and clutch cables connect to the levers on the handlebars. Hope you get some snow and be able to get out there with your friends on that sled soon.
@vewo234
Жыл бұрын
You are correct. 35:33 The barrel end of the throttle cable usually gets pushed into the round hole from the side, while the cable is oriented towards the slot that goes from the hole outward. When you‘ve inserted the barrel you rotate the cable around the barrel so the cable goes between the two metal planes.

Nice Job. The bleeder screw for the brakes was right above the banjo bolt. It had a little rubber cap on it. I would re-bleed with that... That's where the air gets trapped, or likes to get trapped... that bleeder is the "high spot" in the system, you gotta bleed through that.... Fluid extractor pumps come in several varieties, and some are cheap, and they are super worth it. Just a little hand pump works fine... That sucking on the hose thing, uhhhh, don't do that. You don't have to do that. Just get a little hand pump. If you're really feeling it, and you have money, there are some that attach to a drill, and spin the pump, and those are super slick, but a little costly.... I would also say, if you're gonna change oil that little rubber gasket seal, don't guess, and don't use one that's "close"... Either find one that's exact, or find the exact specs online, and make sure you are getting the correct gasket.... You're spending so much time... It's not worth it if it just starts leaking again, and you gotta take it all apart again.... Now, that one you put in might work, but, for future reference, just get the right one from a Yamaha Dealer, or whoever.... It's not worth it, if you end up re-doing it.... Believe me.... Distilled water is definitely the way to go mixing with the coolant. It's cheap anyways... Now, these are just my little nitpicks. You're doing great. I admire your effort on this one. I admire that it takes a little courage, to say yeah, I'm gonna buy this snowmobile, I'm gonna try hard, I'm gonna learn, I'm gonna figure this out..... Those are all admirable qualities. I tip my dirty oil stained cap to you, young lady.... So, great job. Stay with it. Keep learning.

Overheating could be an air bubble in the coolant system since it was drained and also had that line pop loose. Might wanna rework that throttle cable end, that barrel end goed down into the hole while the wire goes through the slot in the hole and gets ran around the cam in the slot or groove. Good job so far doing all this work on the sled too!

Hello Sam, just found your channel. As others has said, with experience comes learning, just try not to make the same mistakes twice.👍🏼a few suggestions, on bleeding the brakes, pump the master cylinder 3-6 times first before opening the bleeder. Once you build pressure, hold, the open bleeder. Repeat, until the new clean fluid is coming out of the bleed screw. Yes to cleaning out the old brake fluid, and not letting it run out while bleeding. On the cooling leak, clean up the area, break glen is a good option, I would add, use a old tooth brush to clean up with, I have a bin of different sizes of brushes and wire brushes to clean with. I’ve always said, 80 percent of fixing anything is cleaning, so you can see what’s going on. And your rights, fluids(shi!) flows down hill, so follow the trail. Good job!

Great content...love to watch you figure this stuff out. Was working on a scooter oil pump today...engine seized after long ride...pretty sure it wasn't getting oil. Broke down the pump 3 times, looks fine, but wont pump when bench testing hooked to a drill. Probably just going to go to pre-mix...did order a new pump. Hopefully the engine isn't trashed. You might want to shorten up the coolant bleader screw - just cut it shorter (3/8 long should be enough)...just need it to plug the hole might also want to add a rubber washer. The long screw probably is ok, but could possibly mess with the coolant flow. Keep the videos coming. You are an interesting person.
@carterhart5435

There are 2 bleeders for the brake caliper, one for each side of the caliper since it is dual piston. They have little rubber caps and face rearward at about 45 degrees. Bleed the system until the fluid comes out clean and you should be good. You need to rebleed the cooling system to make sure it is full. The cable for the oil injection is installed wrong, correct that before it wears the end off the cable and starves the engine of lubrication. Other than those few things you did a hell of a job fixing that sled up.

Have the sled at an angle with front facing upwards and bleed out the air. Check coolers if if they’re really warm if that’s the case then you could have just lack of snow to keep the sled cooled.

You are going to have to jack up the front end again like you did before and that will allow the air trapped in the coolant system to "burp out". Add coolant while its jacked up and run the engine with the coolant cap off ( up to temperature) and it will push the air out of the system. It takes a bit for all the air to get out. Keep adding coolant until no air is present.
