Hello friends.
We've had an incredibly warm, un-Ottawa like winter thus far in 2023-24, so I reached back into some of my footage from last year for an interesting snowshoe hike on a very overgrown and seldom-used back trail. We are again in the Marlborough Forest in the rural southwest corner of the city, and on this day we had gorgeous conditions for a half-day trek.
This trip took place in early March of 2023. As you'll see on the map in the video, I accessed the forest via Dwyer Hill Road / O'Neil Road, then hooked up with the trail system.
Interestingly, the section of trail I "discovered" appears to have been part of the Rideau Trail (Ottawa to Kingston, Ontario) at one time. But there is no bridge at the Nichols Creek crossing, so I am guessing that is why it can no longer be used (am I wrong? Leave a comment if you know the history of this portion of the trail).
As always, my hope with these videos is to inspire others to get out and enjoy our vast and beautiful outdoors. Have a great time, be respectful of the land and considerate of the wildlife and other users.
Cheers!
