I wasn’t a believer in this Pokémon till last night when I played against this Pokémon and WOW it felt really strong and the player was really good at maintaining the game state and really really made me work for the win. In the end I feel like he got a little out played because of the set up I went through but it has me rethinking my own version of trick room (which I wasn’t using in my game against him. I was using a tailwind team).

I think it's fascinating the way the meta is shifting towards Mid-speed and both Tailwind and Trick Room reactively, or with a mix of extremes, a Trick Room team, but with some really fast mons that have priority to operate in Trick Room.

I don’t know about hyper drill, but I did see someone using throat spray Dudunsparce on showdown the other day, spamming boomburst while Terrastalized next to an oranguru teammate who’d set trick room and was using instruct on it. It uh… proceeded to sweep me, kinda embarrassing, but I think that could be a starting point for dudunsparce in vgc?

I’ve found success in a trick room team as well. Super fast serene grace paraflinches ain’t no joke. Build him specially bulky with bulk up and roost, and he can stay a while. You could build him more damage than I do, of course
@kingyveltal1623

@@PokeLitProf8648 I agree with that idea. I’d try giving dudunsparce a slowing item like iron ball or power brace to team up on trick room teams. It ain’t fast so I think it can perform well with hyper drill. Maybe alongside stuff like torkoal to break protect before it erupts, that kind of logic

Trick Room is extremely interesting to me. On the one hand, it's a team style that's inherently incredibly straight-forward in gameplan, which, from experiences, really takes the heat of team preview away, the phase where I usually mess up and get nervous the most. On the OTHER hand, it's one of the hardest styles to actually build on cartridge, which is why I still have never used a full TR team outside of Showdown. I really need to get onto 0IV Ditto hunting. Maybe during the upcoming holiday. My favorite TR setter in Gen9 has to be Farigiraf. Girafarig is an unlikely favorite of mine because its exclusion in Crystal way back meant it would forever be the last missing piece in my dex until the battery died - I used it in a lot of playthroughs after and it grew on me, because it's a pretty fun mon. When it got an evolution, and one that looks so great to boot, I was elated. I even got a shiny one randomly. As mentioned above, I have yet to build a full TR team, but that Farigiraf is already a big part of my current team as a Trick Room imprison mon and also as a safety measure for when my Tailwind doesn't go up. It's rather bulky, it can shut down Sylveon and Indeedee because it gets Hypervoice and Tera Blast (that always has STAB!) and it's even decently strong. Mine obviously doesn't have min speed, but the Giraf's speed tier is high enough to work pretty okay in both TR and Tailwind, which is also fun.

Food for thought: can you consider using the terms "double protect" and "multi protect"? Another great video. I'm amused by the changing room in the background. It looks so empty back there now! :P Anyway, really enjoyed this one. I don't love Farigiraf as much as I wanted to, probably because I'm an og girafarig fan from the G/S days and I miss seeing my boi. I'd answer your QotD but I don't really have an answer for the current meta. In SwSh I laughingly made a Rapidash trick room team with a 0 IV speed Rapidash at the center of it, and that was fun, but haven't really gotten into the idea yet for SV. Someday! I really got a laugh at the helping hand fail by your opponent onto Gholdengo: I had no idea HH wouldn't work there. I guess I would have thought the team user should have known that, but with so many rental codes around, maybe they hadn't even tried it yet.

I mean, it makes sense: Make It Rain, Expanding Force, Hyper Voice, and Earthquake are super popular choices on some very commonly seen mons, not to mention Heat Wave on Hydreigon as an answer to Gholdengo or Eruption on Torkoal. It's just a move that I don't remember seeing much play in the past.

TR is my gem. I've been known as a specialist, but in this gen and the last it's super hard to navigate having that as your only speed control option, since the way to make it work is to make your team not only decisive but also extremely durable. The power creep lately makes the matches too fast paced in general, so it's a must to have a fast option for must teams. Mimikyu is one of my favorites for the combination of typing, access to priority, high damage potential and ability, but it's not for every team.

@charlesfarrant6819

I'm using medicham to skill swap pure power. Blaze tauros is a good partner to skill seap and get a double intimidate off, stonjourner is the OP pick for damage, as when stonjourner gets pure power, medicham gets power spot, which also powers up stonjourner,, choice band on top of that and tera rock rockslide is just shy of killing max defense amoongus and offensuve steel gholdengo. I generally use stone when he's not got too many special threats and not got any with strong spread damage, also have to watch out for wide guard. But ye with bird lead and tailwind, fake out sash medicham and switch into skill swap you can quickly nuke a lot of things, keep getting messed up by new items like covert cloak though.

QOTD: I love dudunsparce unironically for tr, one of the most common wayd to play around trick room is to use protect to stall but hyper drill doesn't care about any of that and surprisingly enough life orb hyper drill packs a serious punch! You also get the option of serene grace+rock slide which is amazing. Luckily in this meta there aren't too many fighting type pokemons, like hariyama, annihilape and maybe tauros, so it's actually pretty comfy to run both of them together, kingambit deincetivizing intimidates and doubling up with both kingambit and hyper drill always ensures a ko. Lastly it gets drill run and shadow claw to help against ghouldengo and ghost types which is nice. Edit: while torkoal can be very good if the opponent isn't prepared I also like Skeledirge tera grass to deal with both dondozo (since it has unaware) and tera grass helps against amoongus, with an assault vest I think it's such a tanky Pokémon it's incredible, it eats ghouldengo/hydregon for breakfast. If you feel that the team would be too weak to torkoal then you can change tera grass to tera water, they're both pretty good for skeledirge
