Hey Mordian, Played my 2nd game with the guard today and got my first win in 40K. Just wanted to say thanks to all the tips and tricks you provide with your videos. I took 80 infantry 1 leman Russ some bombast field guns . Had some death korps marshals for the 5+ Man I drowned 1000pts of tau in Krieg corpses and blood. Reinforcements didn’t let me down either. Infantry was hard to take off objectives and played a hard game of attrition. Thanks buddy keep up the good work. Appreciate all the help

Pretty tough to remember unique unit abilities for your opponents entire army from a single brief run through at the start. Isn’t that the point of gotchya’s being looked down upon? Because you can’t be expected to memorise every ability of every unit from every army? The alternative is stopping constantly and asking your opponent to repeat the unit ability every turn
@friskblackrose
5 ай бұрын
Gotchya's are looked down upon yeah. As you say, it's very unlikely that you or your opponent will remember all of each others abilities for every unit. What a lot of people do (including myself), is agree to write some key things down in a notepad. This way you aren't always having to ask your opponent for the ability rundown every phase.

On the gotcha game 1. I'd say he did not uphold the highest ideals of courtesy and he did get a bit cheakie by not calling you on your goof when u said hey here's what I'm doing... But as you said it was more to do with playing to a high standard rather than intentional malice. A gotcha is laughing at an opponent making a "mistake" when u don't ever give them a chance to succeed. Alex merely let u make a goof without correcting you. Glad that you both enjoyed yourselves and I look forward to watching the other two games when it is not 4am

In a friendly game, not reminding your opponent about your units' abilities is an obtuse gotcha moment. At tournaments, no mercy. I don't blame him for that, and you should play the same way
@Bloodchylde2012

On the first game with the "gotcha" moment with the fall back and charge. He DID explain this to you at the start, so you can call it right there that he did his due diligence. BUT at the start of the game, your looking at the board, your formulating strategies, your opponent is going over a dozen rules his army has, you NOT going to remember everything he says. Does he HAVE to remind you of his units special rule every time you interact with it? ... this point right here comes down to what sort of opponent your playing against ... a gentleman will know full well you have NOT remembered everything he briefly went over at the start and will kindly remind you ... a cheeky/non malicious player will say nothing, resting on his laurels that he has gone over his units special rules and its not up to him to constantly remind you.

@@pine_appole7837 In a tournament I want to compare player skill. And remembering rules is just part of that imho. Also: when you expect your opponent to remind you about his rules (after allready explaining them once) it becomes VERY subjective what rules are important, might be a gotcha, or you remember or not. And its not your opponents responsibility to do that guesswork. But i played a lot of more competetive minded tts. 40k is pretty casual even at the highest level, so this might be a "cultural" thing. For example I'm allways astounded, that running out of time on the clock does not mean you lose in 40k. (Or at least many play it like that). That said, it's a balance. I like a fun game for both, so the balance its hard. But having superior firepower and tellinf my opponent to warn me of his tricks bebeforehand cant be the way.

Who can really remember every single rule and datasheet ability in the 20 plus factions and hundreds of datasheets. Ultimately, it is a game and the objective is to have fun. If this mindset is allowed to become prevalent at tournaments then it will kill the scene over time. I'm usually really generous with these kinds of things as it is quite a cheap way to get an advantage and you aren't really outplaying someone.

I think the opponent has every right to do what he did if he told you before. However, if I was him once id realised you'd forgotten I would have let you retcon your move just to be fair to my opponent. I dont want a bad feelimg moment to happen. (This however, depends on my opponent. If they are a nice person then Ill do it, if they arent then I wont) I think you were 100% in your rights though a turn or so later to not let him change the secondary because he forgot something too.
