I just finished teaching in a departmentalized kinder classroom for 9 years. My only tip is to set up some SERIOUS ORGANIZATION. Not only do double the students take up double the space (cubbies) but keeping anchor charts, lesson plans, and everything else straight in terms of who did what and where did you stop with which class can be daunting. Oooooh. Also if you have a really cool lesson that you don't want your "second period" to see, don't forget to reset the classroom. On more than one occasion my second group walked in only to see the pictorial or anchor chart or supplies from the previous group and the element of surprise was thrown out the window 😬

You reading the letters people sent you had me in tears too. I love that you have so much passion for what you do. Some people question why I substitute teach and for me it's getting to see different kids' faces everyday and letting the teacher know their students are in good hands while they are gone. I know it's stressful when a teacher has to be gone from their class whether it's due to illness, family emergency, something else out of their hands or they just need a personal day for themselves. I know at least I can give them the peace of mind knowing I'm taking care of their kiddos while they are away. Thank you for being an awesome teacher.

I'm a school librarian so I see 340 students each week. I have 7 tables of 4 organized into color groups...so purple table, pink table, orange table, etc. Each table has 4 numbered seats....so seat 1, seat 2, seat 3, seat 4. I have poster of 4 basic jobs in the library. Seat 1 is currently responsible for checking to see that their table is ready to line up....meaning all materials are put away, nothing is on the floor under their tables, chairs are all pushed in, etc. This way each student at each table in every class has a job. I also have matching color caddies that I keep on a shelf. Seat 2's job is to get their table caddy and put it away when they are all finished. I used to keep the caddies on the tables all the time, but I found that the kids messed around with them too much. Now I have a 12 cube bin that I use to house the caddies. On top I have 2 scrapbook paper organizers I got from Michaels. Each one is labeled with a grade level. This is where students put materials that we are still working on. I also keep paper and extra pencils on top of the cube organizer. I have bins with clipboards and whiteboards in the extra cubbies on the bottom. It really helps me stay organized with having so many sections of students coming throughout the day. Just a few ideas to help you get set up for multiple sections. You could still use your classroom economy, but it might be a bit challenging to manage with all your sections.

I don't know if you can do this (dress codes being a teacher and whatnot), but I have migraines and I got my daith pierced. It has something to do with when ancient acupuncture was around, that's where the needle would go. I wish I could post a picture of what it looks like but you can look it up! I got mine pierced INTENTIONALLY with a migraine, and once the needle went in it immediately stopped the migraine. I got it pierced in June and haven't had a migraine or even anything more than a slight sinus headache since then. I used to get them weekly. It has definitely worked for me. :)

At the elementary school I went to we had checkbooks for our behavior system for 4th and 5th grade. We got the checkbooks donated by a local bank, and at the end of every 9 weeks we'd have a checkbook party for people who got 3000$. You can earn money by doing hw which was 25$ and loose money for like going to the principals office was like -500$. I loved this personally because it taught us real life skills at a young age. We would have to write the reason the date and have the teacher sign every time we had any income or losses. This helped because all of the teachers used it and since it was a rotating schedule we could all have equal opportunities to get money.

Hello Michelle, I've been watching you for a few months now and I get a lot of inspiration. For the sleeping problem, may I suggest you relax a bit and create a routine that will tell your body it is time to sleep? I had the same problem, so I changed my evenings I work until 9pm and then I dim the lights, light the candles w.essential oils, put a nice relaxing music, take shower and take care of myself and my soul, sometimes I meditate (try yoga with adriene, nothing ultra difficult) or I write into the journal whatever is on my mind and I read a book. Definitely NO internet 1 to 2 hours before going to sleep. The whole routine will tell your body to prepare for bed :) just a small tip from my own experience

I teach 8th grade English in Virginia so we use the VA Standards of Learning (SOL). For our school we have to display the SOL (number and letter, since it's mostly for admin) and our objective in student friendly goal oriented language. So it looks something like 8.6a then underneath "SWBAT demonstrate knowledge of parts of speech by completing a review worksheet with 100% accuracy." We also have our agenda posted in the same place (again mostly for admin during observations, but it's also nice to point it out to my kids when they come and ask what we're doing today.) You can always post the Standard and the objective separately especially since there is so much to unpack from the Standard. I got my degree and student taught in NY when Common Core was rolling out, so Common Core was a big part of my program.

Joanna Cooke I agree stickers are costly. What I usually do is select a set of scrapbooking pictures instead of The Happy Planner versions. Mainly because they are a little cheaper and I like having different themes each month. Tip for budgeting: buy them at A.C. Moore with a 50-55% coupon plus your teacher ID for an extra 25% off, that should bring it down to less than or right at a $1. (Depending on the starting price.) The other thing I do is draw and color in my planner. I usually do it on Sundays after church when everything is calm and it helps me to relax and get my head wrapped around the week. Hope that helps.
