The shorter version would be the ExtarUSA EP9 pistol with 6.5 inch barrel and brace. Only $450 plus shipping for the blade brace and fixed LOP or one may get SBA3 or other brace with adjustable LOP for slightly more. The EP9 has benefit of a buffer system to reduce felt recoil. It is compatible with most AR15 triggers and safeties. Chris on the Honest Outlaw channel really likes his gen 1 version. It too uses a polymer upper and lower. I have yet to read of anyone wearing out the pistol. The issues with broken polymer triggers and buffer retention pins was fixed in the gen 2 version when they switched to metal pins and metal trigger groups.

I was ready with cash in hand to buy it. But I heard the news about the safety alert that came out in 18th week of February. I was so disappointed but now I’m just gonna wait until my local stores have the fixed version of it. I’m still gonna get it because it would be a perfect for training and self defense.

I love my Response. Purchased mine about 2 months ago and have put about 500 rds through her. And yes, it is a great caliber as ammunition is relatively inexpensive. Btw, zero jams or misfires so far

I agree, a short barrel version would be nice.

I just ordered their FPC, the folding pistol carbine. Its mostly polymer also but folds in half. Just looked like a fun plinker that fits a backpack.

Did not realize that was a polymer gun. It does have its place and can make a light firearm I have a smith and wesson m&p ar15-22 that's polymer but not sure if I'm into anything but a 22lr being polymer. I wanted the lighter weight 22 ar so the kids can handle it easier and it works great.

The ExtarUSA EP9 has been sold for years with no early failures of the polymer upper or lower. The Honest Outlaw channel received a gen 1 version years ago and has likely put at least several thousand rounds through it. For a durable polymer AR15 lower checkout the KP-15 lower that is sold by itself or as part of a WWSD rifle.

I have heard from another channel that the returned Response rifles sent back to S&W with the S&W Emailed FedEx shipping label for the Safety Modifications are going to a third party for repair. Then sent back to the original customer by the third party repair facility. I do not know the validity of this yet. So far S&W won't comment on who is doing the safety repairs or what parts are being modified or repaired. Strange behavior by S&W. Sounds like in-house Lawyer advice. I field stripped mine and found the buffer retention pin to be working fine and not cracked or damaged. Mr. GunsNGear"s Response Buffer Retention Pin probably left the factory broken and not working.

Its a BCG issue. They changed out the buffer and the BCG. If they did not use a third party for this change out you would be sitting month waiting to get your firearm back. All in all it's not a repair there changing out parts.

For the February 2024 Response Safety Recall, does anyone know exactly what parts are being replaced or modifications S&W is making on recalled Response Rifles sent back to Smith and Wesson for upgrades? I haven't sent my Response 9mm PCC back yet. Thanks for any info on this.

I wish the market would come up with another designation for these AR-15-style 9mm rifles in place of "AR-9." The problem is "AR-9" is taken, having been used years ago by Armalite itself for a prototype 12ga shotgun. As an aside, the existence of the AR-9 shotgun is proof that "AR" doesn't stand for "Armalite Rifle" as so many aver incorrectly.
