MGMT was one of the bands that got me to start listening to new music again. And I'm glad I did. I used to listen to nothing but 90's alt rock. I still love that music but there is just so much more out there to experience. It aggravates me now when I hear people say "they don't make music like this anymore". You're right; but, music is still being made that is great and is made for the time we are currently in.

@@whodafeak same here. I was in high school when their debut dropped. Anti new music, Anti pop music. But stoners, the popular kids, Indie kids, hiphop heads and nerds were all bumping this album. couldn't walk down the hall without someone saying "have you heard of MGMT?". Especially nowadays, front-to-back, this record's a trip. Timeless album.

I know the name but never really checked them out even tho they have been compared to Ween many times. They sound, to me, more like Tame Impala. But like both Tame Impala & MGMT, Ween was built by 2 ppl, one who played all the instruments and the other wrote the lyrics and then later put together a band for touring. Maybe this is why they are grouped together every now&then. So some: Ween - Buckingham Green or Blue Balloon

Good reaction, you guys, as usual. I am always interested when you all try to decipher the "genre" or era of a song. To me, this song is obviously 2000's. It has the modern synthesizer sounds of today as well as contemporary pop music's subtle blending of the past 70 years of modern music. In here are pop influences from the 1950s through today, particulary from electronica (esp. techno which is from the early 1990s), 1980's new wave (New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, etc.) and older as well as modern psychedelic rock (especially groups like Flaming Lips and Spiritualized). Certain trends seem to come back around but are always mashed up with other styles and trends as they are reintroduced

holy shit i didnt think youd be reacting to mgmt anytime soon lol. they've been one of my favorite bands since high school. "time to pretend," "electric feel," and "kids" are songs from their first album that were kind of their version of mocking pop music. ironically they also were the songs that made them famous. the other two would make good reactions too. when it comes to their early shit "the handshake" is one of my favorite tripping songs. "indie rokkers" is a classic. "weekend wars" is amazing. "the youth" and "4th dimensional transition" are also great. "brian eno," "congratulations," and "flash delirium" are great from their second big album. from their newest album "little dark age" and "when you die" are both amazing. little dark age has become a meme, paul joseph watson used it in his "white boy summer" segment of one of his modernity videos. there's a pepe that looks like the lead singer in the video so the memeing right has attached themselves to it lol. little dark age is probably the song ive listened to most in the past few months lol. i really love seeing brad like this, if he likes this song i think he'd like most of the others i mentioned. they have a great unique sound and are lyrically interesting too.
