Talk about a string-skipping exercise! I'm a pretty decent player, but this requires some extra practice and concentration. (Don't recommend trying to lead this song and play this at the same time unless you know it so well that you don't even have to think about it as you play. LOL!)

Follow up: a little bit of a different sound, but much easier to play using finger picking.

I finger pick the whole song, except for the buildup in the 2nd half of the bridge, and the solo at the end. Much easier.

Do you learn all of these by ear or what is your method of learning them? And how do you differentiate the rhythm from lead guitar parts?
@wwinford
4 жыл бұрын
Kyle Scott James I use multitracks.com to listen to the parts, then I flip back and forth from that to the recording and listen for lead lines that are heard in the mix the most, then those will be the lead parts. Anything that is not heard as much in the recording is most likely going to be used as rhythm parts

@@wwinford Ok thanks for the info. I’m playing rhythm for this song for my church and they transposed to to the key of c so I’ll have to adjust for that

I have a "fender" Stratocaster. It's fake. It stays perfectly in tune. Would you recommend to buy a Mexican fender strat or buy Eric Johnson pick ups for the fake?

Sam Plautz I am using a hall reverb on my strymon bigsky with the mix knob turned up 60%
@stals523
5 жыл бұрын
When you buy most reverb pedals , they usually have knobs labeled with different characteristics of your reverb such as : Decay, Mix, Pre Delay, Mix simply refers to how much of the echoey tone you’ll get or the Bigness of the reverb

How do you have your bigsky set up? I have a blue sky but can’t exactly nail the reverb on this song
@wwinford

Siavash Massoudi about 4 to 6 seconds of decay and 60% mix on norm mode and plate type should sound pretty close

Great job. More of a cover than a tutorial. Would be a tutorial if the camera focused closer to the fretboard so we could see the strings and what frets your fingers are on. Also a break down of the parts. Great playing though.
@wwinford
3 жыл бұрын
I consider it to be a tutorial because I note the effects in real time with the song and do an occasional slowed down part at the end of the video. Plus I use this channel to resource guitarists at my church who are trained to use their ear to pick out these parts in the video. They are not intended to be long training videos, just a play-through that notes the effects used and an occasional slowed down section that might be too fast to pick out
@lordnikon8984

@@wwinford totally understand that. Maybe a split screen with a close up on the freting hand would help people see better. Just a suggestion. 😁
