Hi! I am currently in high school thinking of going into forensic science. This may change who knows but I was wondering which university and which type of degree and major is best to get into a forensic science job, and I think I would prefer working in the lab (I live in Sydney). I was also wondering what the pay is for a forensic scientist whether in the lab or CSI. Also great video really helpful thank you
@nerdstheword
3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I did my degree in Sydney at UWS or WSU whatever they've changed it to now. I really enjoyed it because it gave an overall view of what you could do within forensics rather then something specific. Its also the only forensics degree in Sydney that does CSI so it may be a good option for you. You will need to travel so i hope you with like driving or sitting on a train haha. There's one other degree at UTS which is specifically in chemistry so if you like the chemistry and want to wok in a lab then this is an option. But i preferred learning about everything then being stuck in one thing within forensics. Pay is also dependent on who you work for so from memory it can range from $70k-$150k and also depends on how much experience you have.

Do you think it's hard to get into? Or is it sort of like the others? I have loved science (specifically forensics) since I was about 10 and when I knew I wanted to do this I did lots of research. I'd like to think I'm good with science, but currently I am only get B's. Do I have to be very smart to get in? Will B's be okay? I'm stressing out a little haha! Please let me know how difficult you think afp is please. Awesome video btw! Gave me some useful info :)

I’m still in high school but I’m wondering if forensic science is super competitive? and what most people have degrees in if they want to become a forensic scientist?
@nerdstheword
3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! It depends on where you live how competitive it is. For example in Australia its actually very hard to get into Forensics. As for degrees I did a Bachelor of Science (Forensic Science). Some universities have specific degrees in forensics, so its about searching for those unis in the country you live in. However this being said sometimes if you are an expert in a field (such as chemistry and biology) you can be asked to either do some forensics work or shift to forensics. To be considered an expert you should have at least 10 years worth of experience.

Forensic biology is a subject within forensics. There are two options; do a masters which may help with the CSI portion or work in a lab which has a career trajectory to do forensics. Please also note that CSI is only going to the crime Scene and bagging and tagging items, it will not involve you working in a lab. So you have to decide which you would like to do more as you won't be able to do both when you get into the field. You generally have to work in one field at a time.

Hi 🙂 I'm Sanya...I wanted to study forensics so I had few doubts, it would be very helpful if you could answer them for me😄 1) Since I live in india, if I complete my bachelor's degree here can I get my master's (major) degree abroad (I had this doubt bcz they teach science as well as the laws of the country 😅) 2) Is studying forensics very expensive? 3)Is forensics a good career choice?
@nerdstheword
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sanya, 1) You can generally get a masters anywhere in the world as long as your bachelors degree meets the requirements of the masters degree. So this could mean either, 1. your bachelor has to be from a recognized university by the country the masters degree is being done at 2. its meets the requirements of subject completion, example is doing a bachelor science degree but then doing a masters nursing degree which is complete opposites and you wouldn't be able to do it. So make sure they're relevant. Double check the requirements for the masters as every university is different. 2) Depends on where you live and the university 3) Again depends on where you live, and the job availability of where you live. I always believe if you have the passion for it then its always a good choice.

Did I hear you say you don’t understand why America has a right to bare arms still? I know it’s off topic but you desired to insert your opinion and being American 🇺🇸 it stood out. However my brain is likely playing tricks because I don’t want to believe a human being who was treated so inhumane during cv 19 area in a country wouldn’t see the point in being able to keep things equal should the over reach of any group impede upon other humans freedom. At large I see most legal gun owner’s are incredibly responsible with their arms.
@nerdstheword
Жыл бұрын
I’m confused? Inhumane during covid. I was in lockdown for 4 weeks and have been free to do things ever since. My reasoning for bringing up the right to bare arms was that here in Australia we had 1 massacre and then mandated people hand on their guns. People can still own them, but it’s much stricter and harder to get them and they are regulated every year. In doing this we haven’t had a massacre since. I’m not saying all gun owners are not responsible in the US I’m just saying I don’t understand why they let people hide behind an amendment when people are dying.

Hi. I really really hope you reply. I am currently pursuing Bachelors in Forensic Science and want to go abroad for my masters in Forensic Anthropology or Toxicology. Is there any country you would like to suggest for me ?
@nerdstheword

Depends what country your coming from. But highly recommend either the UK or US, also Australia if your not already a student here.

You said coroners deal with dead bodies, do they do autopsies? If they do, then what does the medical examiner do? I am interested in pursuing forensics, mainly for the purpose of doing autopsies, I had no idea it was so broad and independent to the other topics.
@nerdstheword

Depending on the country sometimes the coroner can be a medical examiner. But they tend to be the ones that do autopsies. Generally if that’s what your looking at doing, you would also need some sort of medical training.

I want to be a forensic scientist and work for the police department. Investigate how they died. Blood splatter analysis. What exactly should I study ? Criminology / Chemistry biology ?
@nerdstheword
Жыл бұрын
Well it’s two different things. Dna analysis is forensics and would be biology. Investigating how they died would be someone in law enforcement like a detective. So firstly I would decided which way you want to go first and then go from there.

Hii mam I am just in bsc forensic science and want to do work in labs and have a interest in pathology so in what I have to do a master's degree , is it good if I will do it from abroad neither India ..

Hi, I would suggest looking at multiple in different countries as they all have different requirements from overseas students. I would then reach out to a University to check your bsc is accepted before applying.

Do all forensic scientist have/need to go to court to provide the evidence they have collected and observed? Or does simeone else do that?
@nerdstheword
Жыл бұрын
By law if you have analysed the evidence and given your expert opinion on it then you can get called to court. You generally get summoned to court if you are involved and they want to talk to you.

I know you have to finish six year of medicine before you go into forensic Aren't them doctors??
@nerdstheword
Жыл бұрын
A bit confused on what your question is asking. Medicine is a completely different field. Doctors are generally 6-10 years of study while also placements. Forensics is 3-4 years of study with a placement in which you learn a specific field for 3 years.

Hi! I've always wanted to study in australia, and if ever I'm going to be an international student. I just want to ask that is it going to be difficult if I'm planning to take a bachelor in pyschology there, and a master for forensic or should I just continue getting a master degree in pyscho?
@nerdstheword

There are basically no masters forensic courses in Australia, they are all Bachelor courses. If you already have a bachelor in psych then i suggest getting a masters in psych.

@@nerdstheword thank you! I have another question if you don't mind, uhm since there's this thing called forensic pyschology, do you think if I get a bachelor for pyscho, I can still apply to for forensic pyschology?
@nerdstheword

@@kyllapalma6794 So it's always possible, but you may need to work your way up to it in the industry first. So just keep focused and as long as you have yourself set on the path you want you'll make it there!

Hi I am in my final year of engineering and I want to do my masters in forensic science I found a university in America (george mason) which offers that course for people with engineering degree background The course was called ms forensic science with a concentration on forensic biometric/identity analyst. I’m really interested to do it.. but I don’t know much about it. Do you think this masters could really help me get a job? Is this a good career ??
@nerdstheword
2 жыл бұрын
So this is a good example of a masters which is specifically for a field within forensics. Bio-metric and identity analysis is a common field however hard to find a job in. If you finish the degree in the US you would need to be a US citizen to find a job in the US. So just keep that in mind.

Hello I'm a sophomore in highschool and I'm really interested to become a forensic pathologist just that I'm confused and what I have to do and what I can start doing right now as a sophomore in highschool. I was wondering if you could maybe tell me like something's I can do in highschool as a sophomore or classes I should focus on.
@nerdstheword

Definitely do biology and chemistry! They are the staples of forensics, so if for some reason you decide that pathology isn't for you you can do forensics in other fields as well.

Hi, generally you have to have a degree in forensics. I'm not sure how Europe runs things, but if you get a post graduate degree it might help. Sometimes they do training on the job but it is rare.
