A testament to the importance of brotherhood, perseverance and acceptance.
On one seemingly normal day in April, 1979, two cosmonauts, Georgi Ivanov of Bulgaria and Nikolai Rukavishnikov of the USSR boarded a rocket destined for a sortie outside of Earth's realms; the regions within low-earth-orbit.
As a brief, Georgi Ivanov began his cosmonautic career in Bulgarian Air Force Tactical Aviation being taught the basics in-and-around the fighter aircraft of the time, both the MiG-15 and MiG-17 (including the Polish variant known as the Lim-5). As he progressed up the rungs of the aviation ladder, he found himself face-first in physical and mental evaluation; he had proved himself in the air with the MiG, and now he had to test his psyche. As is always said, the slow but steady ones are those who first win the race; the priority over any other application.
Nikolai's testament to this flight was none-different from anything he had previously experienced, as he was onboard both Soyuz 10 and Soyuz 16 prior. As for the Soyuz 33 mission, this was his third and final venture into the void that is space. Working hard whilst in his youth, Rukavishnikov studied as Moscow's Institute for Engineering and Physics and gained experience having worked for Sergey Korolev's design bureau, and come 1967, his future was chose when he was selected for cosmonaut training. After his three missions, not all of which successful ones, he returned to working at the same bureau in 1987; by then, having changed its name to Energia.
Soyuz-33 might not have been the most successful mission branched out by Interkosmos, but it was instrumental to lesson-learning and helped progress, both technologically and industrially, how cosmonauts and astronauts had flown and now fly rockets. The importance: they both returned as heroine of their respective nations.
