Believe me if you'd been watching American football for your whole life you'd be even more impressed. Usually when you throw a ball across your body while your momentum is going away from your target the ball will hang up in the air too much and the other team will catch it and take possession. That just never happens to Patrick Mahomes he has crazy arm strength and shoulder flexibility.

Yeah it's really hard to explain to someone how hard it is to throw a football while running and across your body. Let alone with accuracy. Plus he can release it from basically any angle he wants AND he is excellent at reading defensive schemes. As a Raiders fan it really pisses me off, haha.

Many quarterbacks have played baseball as well, but in my limited experience I never personally saw a quarterback figure out the grip to throw a football like a baseball while still having good accuracy and velocity. What is really unique about him is his consistency to do so and perhaps the argument he might be better throwing while moving than in a traditional throwing stance.

The coaches or programs. And they get thrown to the wolves before they are ready and fail. One of the few seems to be that new qb, Caleb Williams, who just kicked it right away. But, most need nurturing. Help in learning the league and how to deal in the big leagues. Mahomes had a season of learning. He was basically at Alex Smith's knee who taught him so much. Plus Mahomes had coaches who helped him learn and get ready. Without that learning in the lab for a season he may not have turned out to be amazing. One more comment, as a lifelong football fan, what Mahomes is doing breaks a lot of football's rules. Quarterbacks running one direction and then throwing it the other direction is supposed to NEVER happen. Doing that practically guarantees the defender will grab the ball. But Mahomes makes it work. He's also what we call a gunslinger - a QB with a very strong arm who knows he can throw it all over the field, and trusts his receivers will get the ball instead of the defender. Gunslingers typically have problems with throwing interceptions, because they tend to fall into a bit of "Fuck it, my guy's down there somewhere!" and throw it when they shouldn't. (Brett Favre or Jay Cutler are good examples) But Mahomes is a gunslinger that doesn't throw interceptions. He's pretty careful with the ball.

They make more of a spectacle than it needs to be in my opinion. The footwork is akin to a game of "Tag". (the child's game) possible even a Stutter-step standoff. Throwing requires the skill of the game Hoop and Pole. We also played quintessential kid games, like "Dizzy Dash" and "Smear the Queer"; or "Tackle the Oddment", by today's correct term. Understanding that queer, in USA, is not socially acceptable anymore. Just basic physical toughness, awareness and coordination games. Most just migrated to other stuff as it most important in certain circle of people in the USA.

Just for reference : The field length is approximately 91.5 m. So the 50 yard line(1/2 way, center of field) is 45m…+/- Mahomes can practically throw easily 50m…

Due to the physical nature of Grid Iron football it has a pretty high injury rate, and so to minimize injury to athletes it has a pretty short season. They only play about 17 regular season games, so they can’t really afford to cancel any due to bad weather. They will wait weather out as long/best as they can with game delays, but in certain areas of NA this is just what weather is like in the winter time and there’s no avoiding it. Sometimes if it really is just too bad they cancel it, but snow on the ground in and of itself doesn’t not mean a cancellation. Places like Buffalo NY, Green Bay Wisconsin, Chicago Illinois, Cleveland Ohio, all regularly get substantial snowfall and have NFL teams with open air stadiums. There are also plenty of other markets with teams that have open air stadiums that snow a bit less often but still snow during football season nonetheless, so it’s a possibility in those places as well. America is a very big country with incredibly diverse topography, so weather tolerance is incredibly relative region to region. What would be considered unsafe road conditions in one part of America is another part of America’s daily driving conditions in the winter time.

Remember that while the QB is key to a passing game there has to be a great athlete at the receiving end. Mahoney and Brady (recently retired) are the best. Also very accurate is Aaron Roger’s, who is toward the end of his career. If you look at Rogers’ highlights throwing to Davante Adams and Jordy Nelson. Also, Brett Favre who retired 10-15 years ago. Great athletes all. An up-and-comer to watch is Jordan Love, very accurate thrower and just in his second year as a starting QB. (To the Americans on the comments list, by now it’d be clear I’m a Green Bay Packers fan.)

Mahomes dad was a Major League Baseball player. Patrick grew up in the dugout. He was around some of the best players of the day. At 4 he had his own little uniform and glove and was out on the field with the big guys during practice learning and throwing, etc. He had a rocket launcher arm even as a child. In school he played baseball and football and basketball. In college Detroit Tigers tried to recruit him for their baseball team. Patrick decided then to make football his main sport. I am convinced one of the reasons for his being so great is he is a baseball player throwing a football. A lot of his plays are baseball like. And he is changing the quarterback role. He is indeed a footballer but a lot of his background comes up with him when he plays. Maybe that is why I love Mahomes. I am more into baseball, my whole life, and with Patrick being like baseball meets football, he just grabs my attention. I am also a KC fan. I grew up in Kansas City and when we moved to northern Illinois in my high school years, none of us kids ever lost our love of Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals (the baseball team). We all still root for them over Chicago. Which, until this year, was a terrible team so it was not hard to ignore the Bears. This year there is much improvement in the team. But, still, we love our Kansas City teams. There is something in the Chiefs with their half small town humble and likability along with their big city flash and marquee players. Kansas City itself is like the Austin of the Midwest. Austin Texas is Long known for their music, art and culture. An oasis in the religious bible thumping conservative state of Texas. Kansas City is that way in the midwest.

Patrick Mahomes is one of the best, I'd recommend reacting to Aaron Rodgers. He is considered the most talented thrower of the football of all time. He played for the Green Bay Packers. The only team in all sports that is owned by the fans and not by a singular owner. They have the most championships in the NFL and are also the smallest market in the NFL. Their stadium is the oldest, it is built in the center of a town called Green Bay. 100k+ people live in the neighborhood surrounding the stadium. It is truly amazing. I'd recommend looking up videos on the history of it too. Such as Vince Lombardi, the original coach of the Packers. The Superbowl trophy is named after him, The Lombardi Trophy. It is the best history in the NFL. You will enjoy it.

The NFL, in an effort to grow its audience, plays games outside the U.S. every year. They've even played a few in Germany and they have a Munich game at the Allianz Arena scheduled this year. It's between the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers. Patrick Mahomes, however, made the small-market Kansas City Chiefs into a big-time dynasty. 3 Super Bowl titles in 5 seasons is nothing to sneeze at and incredibly hard to do in this day and age. It helps that he has an A-tier coach in Andy Reid as well.

For context, the "Wasp" play at 14:58 occurred in a desperate, almost last-chance situation on third down with a long way to go to get the first down, with the Chiefs trailing by 10 points in the final few minutes of the Super Bowl. That play kept the Chiefs alive and was the start of a crazy comeback in which they scored 21 points in the last few minutes of the game to beat the San Francisco 49ers, who they would beat again four years later in this most recent Super Bowl. I highly recommend either of the Chiefs-49ers Super Bowls if you want to react to a game. The more recent one (Super Bowl LVIII) would probably be the better of the two to react to, as it was only won on the very last play.

6:12 - "Can the ball touch the ground or is this a foul?"- No, the ball cannot touch the ground otherwise it is ruled as an incomplete pass and the down is wasted. It isn't a foul. So if it's 1st down and 10 yards to go (meaning the offense must advance at least ten yards in four attempts to continue their drive), and the receiver does not catch the ball, it'll now be 2nd down and 10 to go. Incomplete passes get really hairy on 3rd down and long (usually 3rd and 15 or 3rd and 20) so those passes are do-or-die because you have to make that catch if you want any shot of continuing your drive. You can think of a yard as being approximately the same length as a meter, though they're not quite the same unit of length. A yard is about 91 centimeters. 15:00 - "What is Wasp?" - Ooh, Wasp is a fun play. The play is sometimes called "23 Jet Chip Wasp", and Mahomes calls it in the huddle as "Gun trey right three jet chip Wasp Y funnel". This is a lot of football lingo that basically translates to "from the shotgun formation, it's a pass play. Kelce, you run a stutter route to the inside of the field, Watkins, you run a deep inside route, and Hill, you run deep to the inside, and then suddenly cut and run to the sideline." The intent here is to draw all the defenders to the inside of the field, leaving Tyreek Hill open once he cuts sharply to the sideline so that he's wide open to catch the ball. It was used in the Super Bowl to gain 44 yards and put them in good field position to eventually score the touchdown that got them into the rhythm to win the game.

Mahomes is the best QB in the league right now. Primarily because of stuff like this. It's all well and good if you can be great when everything goes to plan, but when the play breaks down the guys who can make stuff up on the fly stand above them all. The previous best improviser QB before Mahomes was Ben Roethlisberger who was just as good if not better at playing "backyard football".

In order to understand properly how remarkable Mahomes is, one must first have a broad minimum understanding of the sport. Second, the context of some of these individual plays would add another layer. Mahomes regularly does things as a quarterback that some elite quarterbacks manage only rarely over the span of a long career. For example, he has won 70% of all games in which his team trailed by ten points or more in the second half. It's not a perfect analogy, but imagine this: your football club is behind 2-nil in the 46th minute, yet stands a 70% chance of winning the match - thanks to the contribution of a single player. Second, Mahomes's technique is unorthodox, to say the least. Part of the reason he is so difficult to defend, is that he has the flexibility and strength to make throws which should be impossible, and which most quarterbacks are literally trained not to attempt. That would lead one to believe that for every spectacular play he makes, he also makes at least one catastrophic error. The incredible bit is, he makes very few errors, regardless of the risks he takes. What we are seeing in Mahomes, is a transcendent, generational player. Imagine a footballer with Ronaldinho's flair, Messi's vision and creativity, Ronaldo's athleticism and discipline, and the ruthlessness of a hungry lion. For lack of a better description, that is Patrick Mahomes.

Not sure if it was mentioned by anyone: you talked about how his vision must be amazing. You are correct. His personal trainer revealed in an interview during the taping of the documentary 'Quarterback' that Mahomes' range of vision is very much like an owl. He can be looking one way and still completly see what is happening out of the corner of his other eye. Craziness. 😵💫

NFL plays the game no matter what happens, the only time I remember a game being canceled, was the weekend after 9/11, and the time the metrodome roof collapsed under the weight of 24 inches(.6 meters) of heavy snow, and that game was merely postponed.

Quarterback is the most difficult position to play in all of sports and 15 makes it look so easy. What he does on a weekly basis is mind-blowing. Brady has more Super Bowls but Mahomes is the greatest QB to ever do it. Insane!!
@clearlypellucid

Oh, one thing you need to know when watching Quarterbacks throw the ball is that it's VERY hard to throw far or accurately when you have to throw "across your body." So for a right-handed thrower who is running toward the right side of the field, it's harder to throw a good ball than if they were running to the left side of the field. There are very few Quarterbacks who can consistently do this well, and one of them is Patrick Mahomes (Josh Allen is another one).
