With 'The Art of falling apart' they broke the standards of the eighties techno-pop, achieving a top level of synthesis between arrangements, melodies and lyrics. One the records of the century, out of its time, no doubt. Thanks Marc and Dave

Overview Lyrics Listen Main results Atmospheres are tense today Mother and father are rowing again Silently seated around the table You're the one that's getting the blame Father looks at you like a snake You play with the food upon your plate No one seems to be on your side Things that threaten to hurt your pride Mother loves to be concerned Using lessons that she learnt Fathers never understand When children have the upper hand Smiling you did your time at school Crying quietly like a fool Saturday night and Sunday morning Did all the things they asked you to do They say that home is where the heart Is But home is only where the hurt is Pull the wool over the eyes Forget the worries that you started Mother loves to be concerned Using lessons that she learnt Fathers never understand When children have the upper hand When you stayed out every night The first time from your parent's sight They started to show some concern But by then it was too late Feel it's time to pull away Shut your ears to all they say Be yourself you know it's true When in the end what's left is you Mother loves to be concerned Using lessons that she learnt Fathers never understand When children have the upper hand

I'm sure a brilliant musician & Songwriter would be able to sample the opening and finishing synth cords to make an equally amazing song!! They really grab you. Obviously have to get permission but I'm sure that could happen. I'm a big Gary Numan/Tubeway Army fan and am thinking about Sugababes Freak like me...Are Friends Electric sample. Watched a recent Gary Numan Documentary and he said he was very flattered that someone wanted to sample his music and it's happened a lot of times!!

I guess its a tough time for both sides. Leaving the nest in som way or another. For them it is breaking free from what they learned all their life so far, for you it is fear of loosing what you love the most. It is hard but it is very important for the youngones that this happens. It spares alot of trouble and pain later.

My "coming out and proud to be who you are"- song! Marc was singing exactly about my situation at home... I didn't know he was gay, neither about my sexuality, but (this is true) listening to this song on and on made me angry about my "home" and sustainably changed my way of thinking. I played this song to my mother, telling her, that this is exactly us and that I feel exactly like this guy, she was shocked... I felt intellectually more developed than my parents and thought that I was the kid with the "upper hand"...:)

What's memories. In 80 I remember listened every evening to the radio English New Wave and this song was one of best.
Why is Marc Almond dressed differently in this video than the video that appears in the Documentary Young Guns dedicated to Soft Cell, where you can see brief scenes from Where The Heart Is? Are there two versions of this video? In the version that appears in the documentary, Marc is wearing a black leather jacket, he is dressed entirely in black, and he has a different hairstyle, and he wears more makeup, and the close-ups of him are better. Please someone publish that version!!!! That's a Soft Cell mystery, like the banned Sex Dwarf video
