Had the same problem with the slides jamming while placing the drawer. I figured out a trick: when you first place the drawer rails into the slides, push the bearing runners back (away from you) toward the back of the cabinet, so the drawer rails will sit just on the slider without the bearings. Then, with the drawer hanging out and the rails resting on the ends of the slides, reach in and slide the bearing runners forward toward you, and slip them into place onto the drawer rails. It will take a little work, moving the drawer a little bit, but they should work themselves onto the rail. Once on, push the bearings toward the front as far as you can. Then slide the drawer in. Only a slight additional force should be needed, and once in, the drawer should slide easily. I had drawers jamming about half the time. Using this trick I put in 14 drawers with no jamming at all. Hope this trick helps!

My dude, 5 years later and still problems with these things. I just popped a set into a custom cabinet I'm building and they binded straight away. Also noticed the minute I screwed them into the cabinet sides, the soft close mechanism stopped working smoothly. Tried a few fixes etc, then looked to see if anyone else was having the same issues. Found this vid and it's saved me any future headaches. I'm gonna chuck em and go with some wood slides instead.

I had same problem. Found that one inner slide was not aligning into the soft close mechanism in the back. The outer rail tolerance was too loose in the back to keep the inner rail from flexing inward. I added a small spacer about the size of a small washer to the inside of the rail held in by the last screw. It fixed the problem👍🏽.

That's the first real constructive comment I have got so far ( quite frankly I don't know why they don't just design it properly in the place where they make it ), The standard runners work grate in the same cupboards, I remember I went through a real mind bending experience because of these runners.

Look at the screw holes in the bracket. DO NOT use the round screw holes to attach the slide to the drawer or shelf. Use the oblong holes. At the front and rear of the slides there will be two oblong drill holes. One is a portrait (up/down) oblong & the other will be a landscape (left/right) oblong. At the front of the slide use the portrait (vertical) oblong. Attach this slide with a screw into the center of the oblong hole. At the end of the slide use the horizontal oblong. Screw into the center of this oblong to attach the slide to the drawer or shelf. VERY IMPORTANT -- DO NOT tighten the screws (crank down). I usually fasten the screw in firmly to the drawer or shelf & then back the screw off maybe 1/4 turn. I look for the slide to have a little play in it -- like the slider is floating. Next, on the bracket at the end, there should be a plastic part on each slider. This part is what causes the soft close. This part can be move forward on the bracket. There may be a small pin that when this part is slid to the front of the bracket (moves maybe 1"), this pin will engage to keep this part from returning (sliding back) to the stop on the bracket. Next on each bracket, push the rails back so they do not extend out from the bracket. Insert your drawer or shelf with the slider into the bracket. Insert both sliders at the same time. Keep the drawer or shelf level as you insert. Gently push the drawer or shelf with brackets attached into the bracket on each side. This is where using the oblong drill holes on the slider and NOT cranking the screws too tight will allow the drawer or shelf to slide into the brackets and the soft close will work. I've done this hundreds of times and it works all the time. When you use the round drill holes on the slider, and use more than 2 screws per side & hard tighten the screws, then the shelf or drawer cannot float inside the brackets and close properly. Good luck

Let me share, I am having the exact same issue and unlike some of you I can't afford to purchase more slides. I took a scrap piece of wood and attached the drawer part of the slides to both sides of the scrap to simulate the drawer; it didn't close then either and there was no spacing, or binding, even in the equation. My point is, your blessed if you have not had this problem and I truly thank you for posting this video to let us know that we are not alone. And I have the Richelieu brand from Lowes.

To all fellow softclose drawrunner people who have suffered. I spent 2 days installing 12 lousy draws. I might state that i am a qualified Fitter and Turner used to working to tight tolerances .001 of an inch. etc. I built our cupboards and draws to within .2 mm to .3mm on our sliding panelsaw and they went together great.Came to fitting draws and an absolute nightmare. First two draws actually diassembled and took 2mm off width dimension to fix the problem. Made no difference .Mine were off Ebay $13 each sent them all back, went to Bunnings and purchased exactly the same as you DTS 500mm $28 each.Fitted first one worked perfect then nothing would work, think i just got lucky with the first one. Like i said after 2 days of pulling hair out and swearing i think i got the answer. 1/ Absolutely must have clearance we allowed 25mm +2mm extra total 27mm. they must have clearance or softclose wont work. 2/ When engaging draw into carcass guides it is critical that you have proper alignment or guide will not engage with ballbearing in floating race guide, can actually force bearings either side of guide. When installing carcass guides use the holes in the flexible leaf tab to allow guide slight movement if needed inwards. 3/THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL!!! Install draw guide working from draw front, first screw in vertical slot 2nd screw in middle of guide horizontal slot, thats it i installed the next 10 draws in a row and worked perfect. You will find with only 2 screws the draw guide actually moves to its less resistant position wether it be up or down and draw works fine. If your game pull draw out carefully and add extra screw at end of draw and be carefull it can actually give you problems again. I found that the tolerance on these draws to make them work properly is Rocketscience stuff. you only have to be a bees dick out and Bam draw wont work. I also found you must withdraw both pistons fully for the draw to be accepted into the carcass guides. Draw is then pushed all the way in for mechanism to work properly. Dont mix male and female guides around , you would think there all the same but it actually affected the mechanism operation on 2 of mine. When i took the bad ones out they actually work perfect but when installed under load of a draw its a different thing. I hope this helps someone.

Ok good one, there seems to be a very fine science like art to the installation of these draw runners, I also remember the difference when the load is placed on the runners, I just used the standard ( non soft close ) runners and they work good they also have a soft close mechanism and are working good to this day and a few of the runners are baring incredible weight

Exactly the same half inch either side is not enough, as you say 27mm rather than 25mm makes all the difference, if need be you can always pack your runners with a 1 mm shim, too big and you’ll have trouble 👍

thanks for sharing... many clients call me about this. Start with quality slides from blum or Hittich(?). Cheaper glides bend and torq at screw points. Also possible that the drawers are too big. I usually do 1/16 to 1/8 MORE than required 1"(by most). You can take larger carpenters square and lay it on top of glide and along the face of cabinet to check square. The mounting tabs allow for adjustment when drawer is slightly small but there is no adjustment for drawers too big. AND I did this today with a HomeDepot extra glides I had at home. Resized the drawer, install glider and works BUT be careful of screw depth and number of screws. I did have to adjust as along the length of the glide, i felt that the screws moved the glide out of alignment. Make sure not to use the adjustment screw tabs when screwing in as it will push the overall slide out. On one side, I only used a framing piece of 7 inches for inner cabinet glide support and just two screws. This was because cabinet inner framing, behind glide support, was warped slightly, causing binding. My glides didn't come with screws so used any and this might be an influence as well.

I lay a straight piece of wood from the left bracket to the right bracket. Put a level on top to insure brackets are level to each other. Check the level at front of bracket and at end of brackets. You don't want the brackets skewed or running up hill or downhill. Next -- the SLIDERS. Use only 2 screws for each side. Look at the sliders. You will see that there are several groups of holes

I HAD the same problem. Notice "HAD". The manufacturer of both slides specifies 1/2 inch clearance between the drawer and the cabinet. I asked about the 1/2 in clearance tolerance because it is almost impossible to get exactly .500 clearance. Was told that 1/16 inch is OK. It is not. Found the same sticking problem with about .045/ .065 clearance is almost good. Shaved my drawers down .100 (3/32) and the drawers fit perfectly. Final dimensions of my cabinet is 19.750 / 19.740 (am a retired engineer/machinist) my drawers measure 18.640/ 18.660

What this problem still not fixed ?, I replaced these defective soft close runners with normal runners on the same draws and I and very happy with them to this day they all work 100 %, as for the tolerances you specified they are close to fossil fuel engine piston to bore blue printing dimensions and it is up to the cabinete manufactures to blue print their cabinete making machinery to those tolerances so the runners they sell will work on their draws ( they sell the cabinets and runners as a kit ) Thanks for the info

Like Simon suggested, add a bit more space. An addition 32nd of an inch makes a huge difference. I had to add one inch spacers to my cabinet to mount my hardware to get the 1/2" clearance on each side. When this problem occurred, it was resolved by sanding the spacer on one side. The critical points are where the drawer locks engage, as in this video, and where the soft close feature engages near the back of the cabinet. If you force the drawer past the drawer lock you will damage the piece that holds the ball bearings in place. If you force it at the back you may break the tiny post on the drawer slide that engages the soft close feature.

Have had same problems. Issue is really with design and manufacturing of product. Not familiar with all manufacturers, but tolerances need to be PERFECT!!! Perfectly square cabinets and drawer boxes and side tolerances need to be within thousandth of an inch (or tenth of mm). Trust me on this one coming from one seriously obsessively compulsive individual :). Also to confound my "fun" I discovered that I've had a few sets of slides which one side was defective. I try to not use them. Side mounts and undermounts have always worked fine for me. Even if one set misbehaves it totally destroys your schedule and profitability. Bottom line is avoid using soft close side mount slides, methamphetamines, and opiates. All three will add hell to your life!!!

Some of the mounting holes are on springs (on the wall part, not the drawer side.) They self adjust (about 1/32 inch play side to side). Also, the jamming is the drawer slide adjusting into the ball bearing tray. Just wiggle it gently (up and down) and slowly get it closed all the way. once it is closed then opened, the ball tray and both slides are adjusted. Also, make sure both soft close mechanisms are cocked before trying to close. Be gentle! If you jam too hard at the end, you can push the mechanism off the back of the track. Always get the best, the cheap ones break real easy and feel rough!

Hi, I had the same problem with cheap Chinese slides that actually came without any instructions. I used instruction from Lee Valley website (Side Space: 1/2" on each side (the space can be up to 1/32" oversized, but cannot be less than 1/2") . This did not work with the Chinese slides. I tried to shim the horizontal panels of the cabinet to widen the space and eventually the problem disappeared at a clearance of 1/2" + 1/8" on each side. Now I remember last year I had a unit with 3 Lee Valley drawer slides and one Cheap set. The lee valley ran very smooth and the cheap one was tight and I believe the reason is that they require different clearance. I am sharing this info, may be helpful for someone. thanks

@@adamsufianchan1915 The soft close runner didn't work in any draw, the draws were square, and the standard runners all work grate

We had similar issues with drawer runners at a large hotel here in the UK. I found the small screws supplied with runners had the screw heads slightly raised catching the sliders. Check your screws are not rubbing leaving ID marks
