I don't think Putin was saying Tucker didn't do a good job. If you actually watch that interview, Putin said "I expected him to ask what they regard as tough questions, so that I could use that to respond in kind." Meaning, Putin was hoping Tucker used the western method of interviewing so he could give more harsh answers. But to his surprise, Tucker wasn't there for a fight, he gave him a chance to speak his mind calmly. It was a compliment to Tucker for conducting an interview in a way he didn't expect.

As a Russian speaking person I can tell that Putin was expecting a carbon copy Western narrative journalism. And he got Tucker, who, despite being quite impatient with some of the questions still actually listened and was more interested in how Putin’s actions will affect descriptions of the politicians in his own country. By “ not satisfied” he meant he came for a fight but instead got offered pacifistic conversation.
@AndrewMcGee702
8 ай бұрын
That’s why tucker is great. If he had an MSNBC “journalist” interviewing him it’d just be asking him “why are you hitler” for an hour. Tucker gave him an opportunity to explain it from the Russian side and I can’t stand how big media tries to portray Putin. I’m not a fan, I wouldn’t vote for him to be president of the US but he seems reasonable enough to me. He seems like he wants to come to an agreement that is actually upheld and taken seriously by the west. And he’s damn sure better than whatever the hell we have in office in the US right now

“Why are you hitler” line cracked me up. Thank you. It’s just I speak both languages Russian and English and was actually impressed by how qualified and keen Tucker’s interpreter was instead of what we got in this interview. Russians coin phrases very different from the English speaking world. So he was obviously complementing Tucker as a old gentleman would. Most Russians hate when someone is obviously sucking up to them. And Putin is a old school after all.

As a Russian speaker I would say the translation here doesn't quite reflect what he said. It is a subtle difference but changes the meaning quite a lot. He didn't say ”I did not fully enjoy that interview” as in I didn't like it. In Russian it's a noun he uses when they translated it as a verb. So it is more like: I didn't get to experience the _full joy_ with it. As like ”I didn't get to have _all_ the fun with it that I hoped and was prepared to have” thinking it would be all aggressive and disrespectful in the usual manner of his colleagues apparently. And not like saying it was bad necessarily or something like that.

As a Moscovite, I would like to confirm here that there are nearly 400 stations in the Moscow underground, called the Metro. The older stations were built during the Stalin era. They all look like huge palaces of granite and marble, vaults adorned with paintings and murals or frescos, gilded pillars, bronze sculptures, stained-glass ornaments on the walls, and bright chandeliers. Each station is unique and sophisticated, even the more recently built have their own character. The seats in the carriages are comfortable and there is wifi available throughout the underground system, moreover, the electronic screens inform the passengers about the next station, the weather forecast, the important landmarks for tourists, the break-out news, the services and stores nearby.

@@Siberianoutcast I am not aware of this because, unfortunately, I have not lived in Russia for the past 27 years. When I visited it last, in 2022, I didn't have a chance to be in the countryside or in small towns but in earlier years (2012- 2019) I did and the small towns seemed to be doing much better, with more infrastructure, a lot of grocery stores filled to the brim with all kinds of food, and better state of repair. The roads themselves weren't always very good and needed repair, but it is true for most places in Canada, too, where I am living now. But I still love my country and I am proud of my home city, Moscow, and its amazing and diverse architecture, hundreds of museums, theatres, art galleries, parks, sport arenas, places for children, good schools and reliable transport. The city is also becoming more and more modern and organized, so you won't see any long queues, line-ups or crazy "handouts" because there is no deficit of anything. There are of course, problems, too, I 'd say, the unimaginably heavy traffic and the pollution that comes from it (however, the city is very green and the air is still fresh!), and one other problem is that the garbage disposal system is very old. Nevertheless, both the city and the metro are very clean. As far as the towns in the interior there may be problems with poor management and non-efficient infrastructure, but you should ask the local government about that. Meanwhile, I have only talked about my home city and my impression of it, but I did not talk about the President, or the Mayor of Moscow, or the government of Russia and I do not necessarily endorse them or support what they are doing.

Yeah, I was just about to post the same and then saw your comment. Adam is missing the point entirely, and I suspect deliberately; otherwise, he is, I'm afraid, just an idiot. PBD gave him way too much airtime on this issue. Tom and PBD are the reasons I watch this programme. Tucker was in a very awkward position. Putin was in total control of the interview. To say that that Tucker didn't test him enough is unfair. Tucker tried to test him, and Putin shut him down. If Tucker had taken the 'tough' stance, the interview would most likely have fallen apart. Do you really think Putin would allow Tucker to dominate him, or hold him to account in front of the Russian people?? Imagine if a Russian journalist was interviewing Trump. The same thing would have played out. So, Tucker in the end had to make a decision, which was the right one in my opinion. Let Putin speak. Putin had a clear agenda, which was to explain in great deal why he invaded Ukraine. I found the interview fascinating, riveting. It's easy to distract, as Adam is doing, from the real point of this conversation, which is that we got the chance to hear the other side of the story. This has become a luxury in the West, in which corrupt 'liberal' governments control all the narratives through media capture, while duping us to believe they are keeping us 'safe' and 'saving democracy'. Instead, Tucker gave us an opportunity to hear the other side so that we - the ignorant masses - could decide for ourselves what is 'true'. How grateful we should be that Tucker got off his couch and flew all the way to Russia to interview Putin, knowing what a risk that would be, not from the Russians, but from the West. What incredible courage and integrity. And then he's accused of being soft? Nah, I don't buy it.

Western media journalists are always trying to create that "Gotcha" moment in interviews. I think Putin was prepared for that & ready to throw it right back if needed. It's not a question it's an accusation if you can't deny it. And had Putin brought up Ukrainian war crimes do you think he would answer? Of course not.
