I forgot to mention; I DON'T cover the pots with cuttings with clear plastic. I've found this makes too much humidity and the leaves drop rapidly. If you do it that way, then that's great, it's just not something I do.

I haven't seen a butterfly plant before. I will check it out next time I am at the store. I can't wait to see what you will do next.I am loving striking different cuttings just to see them grow. I am going to do some gardenias soon. It is my favourite flower. Gardenias are native to my birth Home and it brings my loved ones here and those that are no longer here closer to me.

+wildchook (Mary) I just love gardenias, they have such a wonderful fragrance. I love my butterfly bushes also, but not a real beautiful bush for sure until it's covered with flowers. Also great how they attract butterflies, hummingbirds and bees. Very easy to start the cuttings for sure.

+Permaculture Homestead Your welcome, I love these plants and have had them a long time. I did make a little video booboo though, my spring cutting did well, it didn't die. I planted it in my perennial garden and I looked this afternoon, measuring it at 4 and 1/2 feet, getting ready to bloom. Take care, Kim

Last autumn I planted 5 Buddleia bushes at the summerhouse, and I hope they have survived the winter. We have had snow on the ground for about 4 months and it has just cleared a few weeks ago. I do hope they are winter hardy.

+Gardening in Finland with OldGardenerGuy I guess it would depend on your growing zone. Although many species are fine in China, Japan, the Himalayas and other parts around the world, good luck with those guys, I'll want an update when you see them for the first time.

Nice video presentation. I wanted to respond as I took 3 cuttings from a B.bush from my daughters yard. I basically do mine how you show only I make a little dome on each plant and put them under my shoplight. I didnt see much of anything after two weeks and was getting concerned. but in the last 10 days two of the cuttings have really put out a nice rootball which surprised me how they took off all of a sudden. Im going to keep mine under the dome for another week just because. How and when would you add any fert. to the cuttings.?

Will these plants root by bending the branches to the ground and holding them down with a weight, snowball bushes are good to take root like this. We have our first three Butterfly Bushes and they are so pretty that we want to place them as a border around part of our property. Another question, if you don't trim the bushes will they stay healthy, we are going for a privacy screen effect. Thank you for a very informative video.

I've never tried starting new bushes that way, so I'm not sure if it would work for the Butterfly Bush. If you try it and it works, let me know and post on my FB page. I trim my BB almost every year, but it I don't it will keep growing to it's optimum height of 8-10 feet. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it. Kim

Well, I know what will kill the Butterfly Bush. Temps in the -20's F. :0) I don't grow them anymore. Too 'iffy' in Wisconsin. MAYBE I can find a protective area on the south side of my house. I think I might give it one more try. Thanks, Kimmie. :0)

+LARK'S GARDENS I wonder if you could order one of the species that grow in the cooler temps. If the garden book mentions China and Japan or even Himalayas, that sounds cold. I'm glad to hear from you Lark, as always, I love seeing your name in my comment section.

Also an email telling me that Japanese beetles can tear the leaves off of a Butterfly bush, so there's another insect problem.

I like your grape vine, are you going to train it or espalier it?
@TheAbledGardener
8 жыл бұрын
I was able to pick up another grape vine this spring so now there are 2 and I will be training them to grow over an arbor. If you note the chicken pen in the back ground, that will be coming out and a grape arbor built. My grandfather had a grape arbor and I remember it being so much fun to pick the grapes from underneath. Thanks for watching, Kim
