I've had several SOKI watches and they are what they say. I've bought 5 for gifts and they do the job of a cheap watch. They look cool, the straps are great and definitely not water resistant.

Hahah... yeah... not even a gasket. But honestly, not a bad deal! It really isn't. If you want a good cheap watch with a decent strap... SOKI is it!

And here we are in 2024 Late July, Aliexpress has em for 2.59. Now that ive seen your video, all the pre teens are getting SOKIs for stocking stuffers. We do ranch work, so when it breaks, it breaks. Thanks a bunch, I had been wondering about them.

I had one these. The black one, used it when i was gardening. When it was warm sweat would get in to The watch and it stopped working. But i saved The canvas band and repurposed it with my Tactical Frog H5. To give it The perfect apocalypse now look. A new clasp and it was perfect.

Seems to be a regular thing I hear about that people buy these for just the strap LOL

Just bought the black version, looks and works fine and is incredibly cheap, less than a battery or strap change at a shop. Downside? - depends on your luck but be prepared for a really big tedious forward wind to get the date set right.

Just ordered a full black version of this on eBay. I’ve been building a CASIO collection for my little brother. Recently bought about 30 legit CASIOS on Amazon & from CASIO. Lots of different colour & plastic & metal combinations of certain pieces like the F-91W, calculator & Royale etc. No G-Shocks yet as they are a slightly higher price range & some are very large and may not suit that cool uni student retro irony casual aesthetic thing. I did get a couple of standard CASIO’s though that begin to edge into that G-Shock or sports style, just to add some more range in the collection. I kinda like the idea of him initially getting just all CASIOS (without G-Shocks) and all the styles within that. And maybe even someone asking “dude, is that a G-Shock”, with an answer of “I don’t think so / I’m not sure / what’s a G-Shock” lol - cause he may not even know what they are as he’s not really a bro type or a sneaker head. The collection is really just meant as a fun extension of mens fashion for him. An accessory that is relatively cheap, yet legit. CASIO has some cool retro tech looking pieces and I think overall it’s suits someone in their early 20’s. I like that it’s a solid Japanese brand with an amazing history, that has fashion street cred as well as not being looked down on by genuine watch enthusiasts. I however am a different story. I always like to save extra money when buying for myself. I kind of like the aesthetic vs price challenge. I feel that cause I was trained in design and perhaps have a natural eye for aesthetics lol, that I can happily navigate cheap products. Plus I kind of get a humorous kick out of the idea of wearing an almost “naughty” tribute/inspired by/ style knock off. Plus think it might be a handy way to see if I enjoy a style category of watch without initially spending larger amounts, and almost seeing the purchases as costume jewellery for men. Sure, if I was made of money, I’d buy legit trusted originally styled brands every time. I’m not kidding myself here, but there still is some kind of pleasure in navigating Chinese tribute style watches. I ended up buying 4 Chinese watches. (I did finally sign up for Aliexpress, but they mostly don’t do PayPal. As I’m nervous about using my actual main debit card anywhere, I’ll look into throw away one use debit cards in future - so this time I stuck to Aliexpress type products sold through and slightly marked up on Amazon & eBay). - A black Smael G-shock clone/homage off Amazon. - A white Smael G-shock clone/homage off eBay. - The black dial/band/case version of the SOKI watch in this video on eBay. - A Shhors funky retro plastic light blue with large 4 coloured buttons on eBay. It’s almost classed as a child’s watch - despite being large, but I see the style as maybe a retro eccentric adult piece. They also have a LEGO inspired watch that I plan on getting. I actually think that among a “designy/arty” crowd, the plastic Shhors pieces actually hold up way more than a bro-esque G-shock clone or a military field watch clone. Not that that matters to me, but it’s just an illustration of the style tradition I come from. But I personally want to play in many different styles of watches, like I do with clothes. I think that the G-shock style won’t really fit parts of my current style, but I think when looking at g-shocks at least, I get the same kind of satisfaction I used to get out of Transformers toys when I was a kid, and want to have something on my wrist that will force me more into that athleasure/ sportswear / sneaker head / street look, that my wardrobe lacks. I was very tempted to instead of the 4 above cheap pieces, to drop double on an all red CASIOAK that to me is absolutely beautiful - in that mechy/techy/transformer toy way. Even though I think a large red watch is really not in my current styles, again, I feel a watch has the power to push my style and inform clothing choices. So I suppose my question is (after such a long backstory. Lol) is that the only worry I have about buying Chinese tribute brands is - What is the risk of toxic chemicals lessened or banned in euro/US/Japanese or Japanese managed manufacture, being prevalent in these Chinese brands? I think if I bought absolutely everything in my life off AliExpress, then maybe I’d run some toxicity risk, but I wonder how much watches could really carry or transfer certain chemicals. I mean, soooo many products in my life are made in China, including most of my Apple gear, and probably a lot of the things I buy from Kmart etc, and most everything else. I wonder where the line is between an almost ignorant western snobbery to Chinese products (despite and especially being in my life everywhere anyway), to in contrast ignoring all possible risks and amassing a huge watch, sneaker, mech toy collection etc and suddenly realising in 20 years I’d been low key poisoned and should have stuck with legit brands. (Of course I would have bought legit brands as well, but definitely bought a lot of tributes along the way - especially when first playing with styles). Basically, there is a lot of fun to be had, but I don’t want to pay a health price doing it. Any thoughts?

P.S. I really also am enjoying the look of Skmei’s quirky and interesting originals and their more tribute lines too. I looked at a few of their videos and get a good legit feel from them. Plus I actually like their much maligned multi coloured, bubble-ish, 70’s/80’s ish Logo. I think it’s the strongest logo of all the Chinese brands I’ve been looking at. I could totally just begin a massive Skmei collection for me, in the same way I am building a CASIO collection for my bro. If I get a sense that there is no great toxicity in their manufacturing process (I mean, no more than say just standard manufacture that I accept like CASIO), then I could see myself becoming a Skmei brand tragic. It’s fun to find your own brand that you can champion. Maybe even buy from them (if they have one) or make my own private Skmei logo Tshirt. (As I design Merch anyway for myself). That would be dope. Lol. Yeah, so you can tell, it’s really just a matter of me getting my head around any distinct or sub par manufacturing processes/materials in China and finding out if their are certain brands or product categories to avoid, before the AliExpress floodgates open. Lol.

Haha, no, I totally understand. So... to answer your question about risk from chemicals, etc... I would say that it depends on where the watch comes from. The Apple iPhone is made in China... but is considered good quality, so you wouldn't be too concerned with holding an iPhone. That said, lots of watches on AliExpress are /not/ made with the same quality. I too enjoy those watches for all the same reason you do, but there's a couple of things to consider. For one, if you are getting metal watches w/ metal bracelets, then you shouldn't be concerned about wearing them, but you likely do want to wash them with soap and water (using like an old toothbrush). Make sure they are in fact water resistant though, otherwise you'll ruin them. But this will wash away all the factory chemicals that really aren't great for you. For other watches, such as those with leather or rubber straps, there's really not a whole lot you can do. If you really like the watch, you can always change out the straps with something else. I really like nylon straps. They're water resistant (can be washed, used in the pool, etc., and won't get ruined). I just got in the mail a Citizen Blue Angels watch... which is a fake. I got it because I actually have the real one, and thought it was kind of funny. The quality difference is really night and day.

@@ToddsWatchshop - Thanks for the handy advice. I’ll definitely wash what I can. I suppose it’s kind of like when I give a good wash to a new saucepan, to make sure any processing/finishing chemicals are mostly gone. I think for someone like me who’s a little bit of an overthinking hippy, navigating the whole AliExpress Chinese watch market will be an interesting challenge. I suspect in time I’ll know what brands and sellers to trust. But, in the meantime, lol, I bit the bullet and bought that all Red Casioak. It’s my first ever G-Shock. I remember a couple of graphic design degree friends being obsessed with G-Shock. They are very graphic pieces. I’m just obsessed with the multi-hued red little landscape inside it. Seeing as I’ve been buying lotsa watches for family, I needed a piece for me from a solid & trusted brand that I will actually keep. It’ll be like a personal energy totemic talismanic gadget “power up” on my wrist. Lol. Like a soul battery. Lol. My next step will one day be a “reputable” field watch. I was set on Hamilton, but have recently discovered Marathon. Their General Purpose Mechanical is very sculptural and graphic. Right up my ally. Thanks again.

Although it is a cheap watch, I still think it is not fair to lie about par example the water resistant spec. Maybe I am this not rich guy who does not know anything about watches and super happy to find a watch so affordable with this 300m…. 😄😁😂🥶🤜🏽🏆👍

Hahah... I know, I totally agree with you. I think it's pushing it. The watch would still be what it is without the 200m on the face. I don't know anyone who would look at your arm and say... "Wow, that's a 200m water resistant watch!" The only thing I can assume is that when the watch was originally made, it was meant to deceive the buyer...

Honestly seen worse for more money. For under $5 shipped to get a whole watch is not bad, I've paid more for just a clasp. But i wouldn't advise wasting money on these as they're too throw away.

Yeah, I agree... but I almost consider it a challenge to find the cheapest "running" watch I can! I will probably give this away at work. Every couple of months, I bring them in and just give a bunch of watches away at work.
