I've got to admit, charging battery is a pain. Solar panel set up at home maybe?

Jason Duckworth you could do I suppose and charge a 2nd battery and alternate them as need be

Interesting subject. Would a split charger with solar panel be the best of both worlds?

Michael B This winter (2017/18) has been very poor for solar reaping. So recently I have done just this via a switch on my dashboard, so I can manually take advantage of the alternator. This has proved to be very advantages.

NK Services Good work. Was it a case of a few isolator switches do not to confuse either system?

Michael B I suppose that would also work well. For me, my van used to have a Amber probe light on top of it which I disposed off and kept the wires set up because the previous owner had a separate switch on the dashboard. All I did is place a blocking diode on the end and connected crocodile clips that I can connect to the battery, leaving my solar setup in tact. Then when it needs a boost, on my travels I can switch the connection on and charge from the van battery being charged from the alternator

NK Services That’s a handy solution. I’m also in a quandary over what battery to get, bloody expensive.

Michael B yes they are sadly. I currently use a 120ah deep cycle leisure battery. That's the only thing in our line of work, we gulp down electricity
