It's awesome that you're so self sufficient! I have so much respect and admiration for how you and Jen run the homestead. Building your set up for your solar panels and even keeping track of weather changes. Love these videos. They're fascinating!

I'm building one myself and you can start off small! I have 2 100w panels and 2 100 amp hour batteries. I only use it for appliances that draw less than ~200 watts but especially during the day I can run a surprising number of low power things on it. I just have a simple panels > charge controller > batteries > inverter > appliances setup and my next step would be to get more panels (once they can be mounted) and then a better inverter. After that I'm going to just stockpile batteries. The end goal is to run AC off solar 😂
@Terry_1111

Yes, I agree, I definitely think I need to start small. I'm thinking of putting panels on the roof of my 10x12 workshop/storage building so I can run a fan, table saw and other power tools. Right now I have to use a 100' electrical cable if I want to work out there when it gets hot. Thanks for sharing your setup.

I absolutely LOVE this!! This is exactly the kind of thing that gets me going lol. Off-grid electrical setups are very easy to get wrong because you have to think about things differenly and you seem to have nailed it. 👍 Very few people seem to understand the benefits of using lead-acid batteries for home power storage. Personally,I would love to see more detail about the whole power setup. Would be interesting to know stuff like min/max/avg usage, day vs night, how you worked out how to wire everything, etc.. Knowing the power draw of all your appliances would be cool, seeing as you rely on solar and battery, i'd find it useful to see some specs :)

Hey Y'all. We converted a shuttle bus to camper (named Serenity) with 800W of panels, 3 100ah lithium batteries, 2500w inverter charger. My first solar setup, and works well. We carry a 3500w generator because the sun doesn't always shine, and the whole setup will let us boondock for a week at a time.

I really like this longer format video. It is so interesting to see how you have set up your electric system. I have wondered how you are able to run everything. I'm sure that you don't use electricity like you would if you were connected to the grid. I wonder how practical solar panels are for use as a back up for me. I'm in Michigan where we can't count on a lot of sunshine, especially in the winter months. Have you ever considered wind power? Is it practical? I don't remember if you have a river or stream on your property that you could use to create electricity. Is that something that you would ever do? Do you have a root cellar? Is that something you plan to make in the future if you don't have one? It is very impressive how you've been able to keep so many different projects running at once. I hope things will continue to go well for you.
