@@doingitwithnothing Hi Wayne! If you install it yourself, the costs for the solar panels, solar controller, inverter, cables, etc will run between $1.70 to $2.50 per watt of solar, depending on the quality of the components and the size of your system. A 1,200 watt system will cost less per watt than a 600 watt system. These prices do not include batteries and associated cabling.

Make sure you remove every access panel, drawers, under bed, etc and seal all the huge holes that make it extremely easy for rodents to get in. Cat had mice inside at several places, before we sealed everything up with steel wool and then expanding foam. Also, you will need to re-seal all the holes in the bottom fabric, as the sealant they used does not really seal the holes.

I'm not Dan, but I know that most modern converters can be switched to Lithium easily, with literally the flip of a switch on the converter (same thing on the charge controller). I know this because when I converted to Lithium my 2021 Lance truck camper, my converter and solar charge controller had this option. Made switching over to Lithium a no-brainer.

From a former electronics engineering technician, that equipment set up was done very much like I would have done it. Well done Dan. One thing I'd like to see when it's finished, maybe after the battery upgrade, is some kind of smooth cover over the "panel" so there's no chance of a snag when stowing and retrieving other gear from the compartment.

I always find it amazing that people want the full solar output.. When they rate them around 18.0 volts depending on the panel..If that voltage falls below 11 volts.. The charge controller will limit the solar input to prevent too many amps to come in and blow the fuse or melt the wiring...Why you fuse them to the rated input...

Although you do it only once on any RV, I would have used 100 watt panels that weigh about 27 pounds each. More manageable.
@ontheroadwithdan5571
2 жыл бұрын
The largest panel size that will fit is always the best. First, larger panels cost less per watt. Second, less connections, saving costs and install time. Third, it takes the same amount of time to mount a 200 watt as it does for a 100 watt panel. Fourth, you will save money on mounting brackets, hardware, dicor sealant, etc.

The 20 amp breaker is on the solar side, as explained in the video. The max amps from the solar will be 18.6 amps, which will never be reached without tilting the panels. So no pop! The solar controller is a 40 amp controller which means it can output to the batteries a max of 40 amps.

If one has the roof space, sometimes buying a PMT controller will save enough money to buy another solar panel. One gains efficiency with MPPT, but not 200 watts worth. The controller can always be changed out later, (easier than adding another panel later)
