@@rkeele82 I hope to pick one up pretty soon. I used to own a Coronado SM40/BF10 filter set that I mounted on my small refractors. The double stack 60mm should be a nice step up in performance. Scott

Very nice review thank you. I just ordered this telescope. Can you fit a T adapter for a DSLR camera to the diagonal? It looks like the thread is there in your video for this.

Yes you can fit a T-adapter for this scope on the diagonal, though I will admit the best way I have found to photograph the Sun is by using an dedicated astronomy USB camera to take a video, then stack the frames for a final image. I did a small quick video on one of the cameras offered by Meade Instruments, I just added it at the end of this video if you want to check it out. Though they have come out with a newer version, that has a little more impressive specs.

+Keele Photography, Thank you very much for the reply. I have a ZWO camera so will try that too. It looks like a great telescope.

I have also tried my ZWO 178MC, and it does pretty well! You will love the scope. One more thing, this website halpha.nso.edu/ shows the sun in halpha from different places around the world, so you can check to see the current conditions etc... I use it almost daily. Great Resource!

They finally got rid of the helical focuser! I just spent $700 replacing the one on my Solar Max II 60 with a moonlite focuser.

You should do an ISS transit video with this scope. :-)

Not a bad price for what you get and get to see with it and guess what I went to link and "OUT OF STOCK" dam.

This Summer they will be releasing the 90mm that comes with a double stack option as well. Not sure on the price with that one, but something to think about :)

Do you recommand this scope for the solarmax 2. 60 mm ?
@rkeele82
6 жыл бұрын
I have never used the 60mm, so I can't say for sure, however while this is an amazing scope especially with it's versatility, I would opt for the Solarmax 2 90mm, since it's about the same price. I am mostly speaking from a photography stand point, though visually there are few telescopes that can give the detail you can see with this scope since there are 3 ways to tune the H-alpha light spectrum to the best possible image.

Thanks! I Will go for a other cheeper 60mm scope. Becource i do only visual.

This "so-called 70 mm solar telescope" has only a free aperture of 60 mm (etalon aperture) ; as can be seen in this video. Only the refractor behind has 70 mm.

Thanks for sharing. I've been debating this or the 90mm double. But looking at some comparison images I don't think the 90 gives you that much more. Certainly not double the price more. Just one thing, PROMISE me you will travel to where you can see the total eclipse in 2024. Trust me, it will destroy you. Me skd my friends were MESSED up after eyeing it. Pictures and videos font do a total eclipse justice. I THOUGHT I knew what I was in for, I wasn't. Once in a lifetime event.

awesome scope! I just have a pretty simple refractor telescope but I got into viewing the solar system a year or so ago and love looking at saturn and jupiter... venus is now I'm my horizon but I can't really see anything. I was looking into get a solar lens to look at the sun. Obviously won't be this awesome but... I do what I can on a budget
