Euge playing through an sd1 into a jcm800 is just one of the best sounds in the universe. End of discussion.

EL34’s for the win. The bad boy is a super close second, but EL34’s give those Marshalls a slightly better cut. I have an 85 800 also. I can’t imagine life without it. Great video Euge! Can we get an instrumental hardtones album? Please?!

They aren't really going head to head though are they ? I have both these amps, without pedals in front the 800 has far less gain than the SLO and sounds completely different. There is a reason many of the big acts in the 80s modded the 800s.

Every tone is awesome. But there’s just something in the way the SLO handles the high end that is so satisfying to my ear.

The flexibility and refinement of the Soldano SLO-100 versus the brute force and directness of the Marshall JCM800 is almost like comparing a bodybuilder to a strongman, if that makes any sense. Soldano has that certain extra high-class elegance to it, whereas Marshall is just full brawn and gets the job done. 💪

Another great comparison, thank you! Both of them are fantastic, but unlike the previous tests, where I could have lived with either «contender», this time the JCM 800 is my clear favourite exactly because of what you mentioned at the very end.

Marshall el34 for the win. There’s something about the high end that the 34’s do. I love amps that have a big thumping bottom, yet the attack is imediate and a sweet high end that distorts, but retains clarity. It’s a tall order but I think Splawn amps have cracked that code. If you haven’t tried one, you really should.

Euge! Jäbähän on iskenyt kunnolla löylyä contentin luomiseen. Todella vakuuttavaa. Hei, miten opin John Sykesin Bad Boysin pull-off fillin tehokkaimmin? :D Muuten menee koko biisi hyvin jo miinus soolo.

Euge did this on another video. It seems to me that he’s not really doing a comparison, it’s more like he’s trying to see how close he can get them to sound according to how he hears tone (no right or wrong). But, the SLO get’s fizzy and flubby VERY quick, if you’re not careful with the gain, and sounds horrible. *Euge is definitely getting better at dialing in the SLO though. A Marshal…..800 or otherwise, is FAR more forgiving. It’s a warmer amp, and doesn’t have as much gain, hence why IMO the 800’s clean is very nice, and the SLO’s clean, while very good is incredibly generic, almost something to use with a pedal platform (hence why I use my Victory Copper through it). I don’t like the clean on my SLO at all. It’s just so soul-less, for lack of better words.* That said, I prefer the SLO with a Tumnus, but guys are getting amazing tones with the SD-1. I scratch my head at Euge’s 800, because if you walked into a store to play an 800, 99% of the time it would sound anemic, and thin (especially, the older one’s). I’ve never heard one I liked, short of Nuno’s tone on the first Extreme album (which, to this day, I still can’t believe is a stock 800….or a Marshall for that matter. He get’s that perfect Fair Warning tone on that album). But, I digress.. Euge get’s a much better tone than a typical 800, with his. *For those new to the SLO cult…. The SLO is NOT a “wooly” amp, when used how Mike Soldano designed it. Not saying that’s a bad description, or Euge is dialing up bad tones…again, no right or wrong here. But, when dialed in to get the tone Mike Soldano designed the amp for (almost a “Super-crunch” tone (for lack of better words) which was considered high-gain back circa ‘87). The SLO is EXTREMLY punchy, articulate, crips, and mid-focused. I’d love to hear Euge dial in a tone like that with the 800. He did it with the Silver Jubilee when he demo’s those (both the full size and mini). I bought my mini based on his demo. It was like a little SLO in many ways. As one dimensional as the SLO can be in many ways (depending on how it’s used)….there’s nothing on the planet that get’s that hard-rock “Super-crunch” tone. Once you hear it, you can’t really play anything else. *ANY video with Euge and an SLO is an awesome video. It’s great seeing him get more and more familiar with that amp. Well done, Euge!*

SLO is killer. Can sound closer to the Marshalls with the presence cranked and treble pulled back. Boosting the crunch channel is a bit tighter and more open than boosting the overdrive channel, pretty much like boosting a 2203. Using a reactive load and IRs is kind of the great equalizer, smooths over the differences compared to micing a real cab.

Did you scoop the mids ? Both sounds like mud and have a mid rich voicing you seemed to have destroyed........... The JcM800 is a classic but the Slo has a way more detailed gain structure but better with soooo much more flexibility with a killer level on loop return for a master volume. A crunch and gain channel making it an amazing amp!!!

I watch your videos using the same headphones every time, my Beyer Dynamic DT1990, and the tones you're getting from using that virtual cab are absolutely terrible, versus your mic'd cab, or your old Suhr RLIR. If the tones sound good to you coming out of your monitors, I'd suggest that your monitors are lying to you. If you listen to a few of your own videos using some good headphones, you might hear what I'm hearing.
