Redo the lowest bowl into Soccer Specific sight line, and turn the field into a FIFA approved dimensions and the Chicago Fire 🔥 will have the best Soccer Specific Stadium in the MLS 😁

I do definitely want to see Soldier Field renovated and downsized to a soccer specific stadium. While no renderings of what that will look like have been released yet I really hope it removes the “spaceship” and restores the exterior to something much closer to its historical appearance

Yes. I went to a US men's soccer game there many years ago and the space is already ideal for soccer. A roof might be really expensive but could be justified given the frequency of rain, sleet, and snow. I think the City was right not to give in to every last demand of the Bears .... teams that bad are in no position to negotiate a free ride!

Sad state of football stadium architecture that we’re living through. MLB went through this in the ‘70s, but finally, starting really with Baltimore, then Pittsburgh, returned to old school style baseball parks with modern amenities. The horseshoe shaped, outdoor, arched facade, grass field stadiums: that’s football.

Let's be fair here. Yeah, we can say Chicago blew it, but look at the reality of it all. Even if there was every dream improvement and upgrade to Soldier Field imaginable, we're still talking about a team playing in a stadium they LEASE on 17 acres owned by the city's park district. Now compare this to the 326 acres that the Bears will OWN, including the stadium and all the commercial developments within. Sorry folks, the city of Chicago never stood a ghost of a chance.

Look, the friends of the park fought having Lucus build his musuem. Even when the plans increased green space and moved most parking underground to support that, their stand was Green or nothing was the only changes allowed. And they will fight any attempt to upgrade Soldier field and the Bears know that. The protracted legal battles drove Lucus to flee Chicago. And the Bears if they want a modern stadium cannot deal with a 5-10 year legal battle. And once the Bears leave, any plans for Soldier field will be fought tooth and nail by the Friends as they have time and the courts on their side. If they can delay any changes to the stadium and the area so the city keeps losing money, they'll have to demolish it and turn the whole are Green exactly like the friends want.

The bears should have done what the packers did and had a soft renovation. Although the packers did their renovation after soldier field was fully renovated it would keep the nostalgia to the stadium.

The city didn't blow anything. In the modern day NFL, you need to control the entirety of your stadium revenue source. The Bears can't do that anywhere in Chicago unless they want to purchase property south of Comiskey Park. City owned land on the lakefront is priceless. And why would the city want to line the pockets of the McCaskey family by giving or leasing land for pennies on the dollar. What team of any value in a city of any value plays near downtown? The Steelers, please. The Panthers? Seattle built those stadiums before that city's tech boom, and Seattle isn't Chicago. The Lions play downtown but who cares. about that area. The Bears moving to Arlington Heights is just a matter of economics in today's sports world.

Other things I can imagine would be to make it a more permanent base for US national soccer team matches. The US national teams move around the country for 'home' games a lot. (Not uncommon with huge countries but certainly unusual by general standards) Soldier Field would be ideal (Though I presume the reason they move around the country is to increase interest or as a public service rather than the lack of an available stadium but maybe that is part of it) since it's in the middle of the US and would allow the US teams to have a better sense of a 'home' stadium. Same could be done for the US rugby teams and actually having a local market in Chicago could drive a more devoted crowd over time for them. And international rugby matches not involving the US, those have always been a winner for Soldier Field. I'm sure they're gunning for hosting a lot of games during the US hosted rugby world cups in 2031 (Men's) and 2033 (Women's) They got the stadium packed for the ultimately historic match between the All Blacks and Ireland. If you can't get the senior teams then try U20s or bring the Maori All Blacks. kzitem.info/news/bejne/wohtsaetiXyXfJg During the 2001 iteration of the XFL the Chicago 'Enforcers' had apparently the lowest attendance in the league when they played their home games at Soldier Field. So maybe that isn't a goer with the new one given there isn't all that much hype for the new XFL.

The new stadium should be called “Beetle Juice made us move stadium”. I don’t live in Chicago and I’m not a Bears fan so I’m dispassionate about the issue but teams move all the time. At least they’ll be in the suburbs instead of a completely new market. St. Louis is still without an NFL team.

Hello Arlington Heights Bears then... Bears officially have no connection to Chicago in any way shape or form. They don't practice in Chicago. Their training camp isn't in Chicago and now their Stadium isn't going to be in Chicago. This has actually become a snobbish suburban team. What a zzzzzz suburb to move any team to
@lanceparker4796

They are missing out on millions revenue and therefore can't compete with other teams. We all as fans would like to see them stay in the city but financially it makes no sense if you the owner. 60 acres the Bears are paying for. In Arlington Heights they would own their own land outright and develop it to make revenue over 300 acres to be exact . Like it or not money talks. Even if a second team would come to Chicago they don't want Soldier Feild as their stadium. I do agree with you on ties to the city that will be lost.
