LFP batteries in that tractor should get at least 10 years of daily use before needing to be replaced at which 10 years from now they'll be much cheaper than today. ~$100 at most per KWh at that time.

Why worry about the replacement cost of the battery? Did you worry about the replacement cost of the engine on your 1025R before purchasing? These batteries will have way less use than a car. EV batteries that have thermal management outlast the cars.

I’m curious to see how it performs, but for me actually purchasing one of these is a non-starter until there’s some generational advancements in battery tech that will make run times apples to apples, and by that I also mean cost. Tim, keeping the tractor in your heated shop is a bias in the evaluation of this unit. I hope you will park it outside this winter and evaluate how the batteries do when they get cold. Most people do not have heated buildings to store their tractors in. I think we all know the batteries will suffer when they get cold, but it would be interesting to know just how much. I looked on the Solectrac website a while back and the specs at that time said operating temperatures down to 32°F. Do not think I will be selling off my 25R anytime soon. But looked at the specs and I am happy to say they made the RIGHT decision for the battery chemistry and that is LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) vs what is used in auto EVs which is Lithium Ion polymer (EV chemistries can vary some but they are not LFP batters). Most consumers do not know the difference, yet...but those in industrial and batteries requiring extreme durability, take a beating, and SAFE (thus used in military and aviation and industrial applications)...LFP will be superior for this application. Less expensive, far better life span, NOT toxic, and will NOT have a THERMAL OVERUN. So its is safe to charge in your barn. You will be able to charge this battery faster than an Ion, it does not get memory issues and it will last much much longer. But most importantly the safety factor of LFP is superior to Ion. Only down side of LFP batteries and why they are not used in EVs is they are heavier (less power density). You can literally shoot that battery with your rifle, not kidding, and it will not thermal overrun nor explode. If you follow consumer battery banks for remote electricity , pretty anything over 10 aH they have moved away from the Lithium Ion to the LFP as this tractor is using (cost and safety). Only hold out in this space is Goal Zero, unfortunately. Reason LFP are not toxic they do not use 'Cobalt' that most EVs use. That is the poison part of those batteries. When you see 'slave kids' in Africa digging in the mines, this is for Cobalt. LFP do NOT use Cobalt.

Thanks Tim for setting this series up for an honest, merit based review. It’s the only way to go. My first impression is that all the controls are redundant and convoluted. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Looking forward to seeing your overall review of this tractor. Really appreciate that your treating it as a tractor/tool review and not a opinion as to if it’s good or bad technology. Was wondering since this is relatively new uncharted territory if you might want to swing a current transformer from a lesser used circuit in your bkr box so you have a true meter for both phases. From my electrical background I’m left wondering if it is a truly balanced load in all charging modes. I have a power bank that takes two separate inputs and discovered over time that they are far from balanced loading based on the present state of charge. Thanks again for taking on this project. I am confident that if there is a notch that an electric tractor fits in you will find it and give it a fair review. My personal speculation would be it might excel for someone looking to operate off grid and independently from the established power grids, including liquid fuel supplies. Not many people make their own gasoline or diesel.

Three years ago I was fascinated by the idea of an electric car, so I leased a Chevy Bolt for three years. Positive: It was fun to drive and had a lot of torque. It also was very cheap to use if you charged it at home. If you went to a commercial charging station, your wallet thought it was filling up an 800 HP gas guzzler. Negative: The charging time took many hours even with a 220v charger. Negative: The range was anywhere from 150 to 250 miles depending on whether you wanted heat or not. In Michigan in the winter, that was not an option. I just turned it back in to Chevrolet and happily leased a gas guzzler. Until they solve the long charging times, and the lack of range, it's not gonna fly except with people that never go anywhere. As for saving the planet, no. The electricity has to generated somewhere, and you're not going to run the country on windmills and solar cells alone. My advice is buy a diesel tractor and wait see if down the road something better will come along.

What do you do during a power outage? Plus when we had a 3 ft snowfall I wouldn't trust an electric to not go dead where you can't charge it. The cold temperature rating is a concern too. Look forward to future videos and we'll see.

My backhoe wouldn't start at 10 degrees but fires up the next day at 25 degrees no problem.... guarantee it will be useless

This will work great for anyone that lives in a residential community! Having this will 1) eliminate the noise complaint issue from neighbors (especially older neighbors) 2) allow for earlier and later use without worry of bothering neighbors 3) eliminates the exhaust issue 4) eliminates the worry of keeping diesel in containers around the house or in the garage.

There is no worry of storing diesel as far as flammability and vapor, there are 275 gal oil tanks full in peoples houses for heating. You can throw a match on it and it will go out. The lithium batteries will start on fire first.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TTWT! This will be an informative series. I had to laugh at myself a couple of times as the voice in my head said don't run that tractor with the door fully closed a couple of times lol.
