If you press the opposite side of the ring(opposite of the pry notch) downward toward the inside of the rim it takes the tension off that ring so you don't have to bend it like you did. Almost like dismounting a tubeless tire. If you bend that ring too much it will cause it to become unsafe. Just a word of advise I had a very good teacher at the tire shop I worked at in high school. Spray lube also helps, and if something ever feels like its bending stop.

Thanks for the video. From what I understand the thinning spot in the site of the solid ring is the key to allowing the ring (when it is tipped) to slip over the edge of the rim. Sounds like it would be relatively easy IF no tire on the rim but difficult once the tire is mounted.

That seems to be how it is nowadays with these old truck tires. Nobody is willing or even knows how to work on them, so you just have to figure it out yourself.

Just Subscribed. Those solid lock rings are as dangerous and unsafe as the Kelsey Hays two piece widowmaker's are. We have videos on our channel about the different kinds of truck wheels.

Another bit of advice from another old person👴🏽 is, you really should have used the correct type of lever as you're probably gonna damage your tire levers doing that.

I wonder how much easier it would be if he used the harbor freight lock ring tool. Instead of a tire iron????

Be very cautious when airing up one of those type. Use cage or chains. The retaining lips can get sprung out of shape or corroded and fail as the tire expands. I used to have some and one day I had one come off. I was safely out of the way but the ring flew across the yard when it let go!

A shot of PB Blaster or some dish soap would make it even easier. Never saw those before. I’m sure I will sooner or later.

You're putting too much stress on that one spot. You wanna walk the bar down slowly so you don't warp it and cause an explosion later on after multiple times of warping it slowly.

Thats not always a option when there are no wheels same pattern and offset. Some stuff isn’t common. Like 40’s ford 1 tons.

It's call a friction ring. I know how to do it. I'm very good at it. I won't teach it. And that's not how it's done.
