Hey ProcadWorks Jr! Thank you for sharing this! You did your BOLT in less 5 mins. . . . usually to do bolt & nut wld take about 15-20 mins w/ assy & animation. Most mech drafter did not learn how to sketch bolts & nuts. . . You are the only one in youtube that drew a bolt in less than 5 mins! Thanks man!!

Press the S key and stare in awe! :) It's much quicker than going to the top menu bar, you can even customize the S key menu. Also it's evident you come form Autocad, or another non parametric modeler, because you don't fully constrain the sketches and prefer entering the dimension at draw time :) Nice bolt tutorial.

What is the difference in doing it this way (let's call it manually) or using the automatic thread feature? I'm going to have to watch this a few times to have it sink in my head! Thanks Also can you do a video for creating a matching nut for this bolt?

At 3:34, how did you ever find out how to randomly add a triangle at the end of the bolt...? I can't possibly imagine...

Hey bud, I use Solidworks 2015, and the school I go to we use 3D printers, and come Monday morning we are going to 3D print this exact Bolt and the nut that goes with it. Thanks for making the video got me a few bonus points :D

Nice lesson bro. Quick and clear! I have 1 for you... to change a new part to mm's just click on the icon in the lower right corner that displays the current units. Does anyone know how to change the default value for this?
@CADGill

After changing the part unit, save it as part template and replace default part template file.

You need to make more videos. Everyone else moves at a snails pace in their screencasts trying to describe what's going on. Boring! Your pace is perfect.

Can you describe more about the 3 sided polygon you use to make the swept cut? I don’t understand what the triangle is for or how you get the values to input ....for example I wanted to make a metric 2mmx2mm set screw would would my triangle look like?

Good job with the vid! instructions very clear. I only had one problem and that was using the swept cut. I sketched the triangle just as you did and when I tried to apply the swept cut, I would click the triangle and then the helix, and it would not let me click the green tick. Any idea what could be wrong?

Nice simple method! Thanks! If you do a simple extrusion thru all on the plane of (and in the shape of) that abrupt triangle at the top of the thread, it smooths it out nicely. ;)

Isn't there any easier way? I mean, in Inventor you choose the thread feature, define where it start and how long, specify the thread type and thats it. No spiral drawing, triangle drawing, seeping, just a single feature.
