Wow. Great tips. I think to really grasp all of it, you need to be at a particular stage in your SW experience/development. Personally, it has given loads of little things that will really help my workflow. I thought i was doing ok before i saw this. Lol. Best video I've seen. Great stuff. Thank you for sharing.

I agree with your comment. Every day, week, month & year, I make progress only to realize there is so much more to gain. 5-1/2 years into my progress (using Solidworks at my job on a daily basis, and after hours for personal enjoyment) i still feel like a yellow belt😂 maybe green or blue😊 So much to commit to memory. Mouse gestures. Keyboard shortcuts. Drawing tips. Configurations. Visualize Renderings.Etc. But the results make it all worthwhile! This 3 year old video goes into my 100's of saved videos that have taught me the most. It's a real good video.

Very good tips! I saw that you had to click Adobe's toolbox closed... There's an easy way to make that nuisance go away by finding a checkbox in Preferences -> "remember state of toolbox". It has saved me a lot of cussing at Adobe for eating up my screen space whenever I open a .pdf.

On a drawing, I import a part file that has a curvature. Let's say a convex lens. I make some holes and some notches through it. How do I show diameters, hole locations from the datum/along the curve? Smart dimensions is a pain in the ass for showing these dimensions.
@goengineer
4 жыл бұрын
For instance…..if you create these ‘holes’ with a Sketch of circles with dimensions and then create the CutExtrude, you can actually use Insert Model Items in the drawing to bring in ONLY the Dimensions to a view for this specific feature. Here’s the process: -Create the Cut in the Part file -Make your 2D Drawing with views. -Expand the Feature Manager in the DRAWING you need to drill down to find the HOLE CutExtrude feature in the specific View. Select it. -Go to INSERT | MODEL ITEMS in the Pull Down menus or MODEL ITEMS on the Annotations Tab. This will insert the FEATURE and SKETCH dimensions for the SELECTED FEATURE in the specific View in which you’ve selected. This is an Associative Dimension and is the same PHYSICAL DIMENSION used in the Part file. The Bonus is that this is also a dimension you can Double Click and change in the Drawing and it will change the Part file. I hope this helps. Let us know anytime if you have any further questions.

Hi Darin, Thanks a lot for your tutorial it is very good! Would you please create a tutorial on multilevel subassemblies management? I'm getting trouble modifying large assemblies with multiple subassemblies levels without affecting master files. Also, what are the tips and tricks to be able to manage large files (up to 80MB per file) to do it the fastest and efficiently? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Cheers.

6:58 Hi, in the drawing view properties, is it possible to make "Use model in use or last saved configuration" as default? I have to set this for each drawing is wasting a lot of time.
@goengineer
2 жыл бұрын
No, in fact, it is this way on purpose. You see, if you have every drawing set by default to “Use model in use or last saved configuration”, then drawings would go thru a massive update, and in many cases maybe lose or dangle dimensions and annotations because features in one configuration are not always in others. I would actually be curious of what your use case is that you would actually want your drawings views set to change configurations and rebuild constantly along with how you edit your model?

That sounds like an issue with a video card or driver. It is not the only possibility however, so the best thing to do would be to reach out to your VAR's tech support team for a more complete evaluation of your situation.

Thank you so much for this video! I use SolidWorks for 9 years now but I have learned a lot! I have a question. You have exported the BOM table to excel 2007, with thumbnails and everything. Is it possible to automatically export links to the part/assembly file? I mean that if we go to the exported excel table, we click on the thumbnail and the part itself opens in SolidWorks, because it's linked to the part/assembly data. It would be a huge help for us. Thanks in advance!

@goengineer

If by "highlight" you mean to make a certain area of the drawing stand out, my suggestion would be to try using layers. You can change the color of individual components or annotations with layers in your drawings. This blog walks you through creating and managing the layers in your drawings and there's a video demonstration at the end: www.goengineer.com/blog/use-layers-solidworks-drawings
