Awesome, simply AWESOME! Watching your vid was a real pleasure. We are having a remodel done, and this video was such a great excursion from all that craziness around here. Thanks so much. Been really looking forward to your first hiking excursion. And the comments! What a hoot!! 😂😂😂 You were absolutely correct about how the temps can affect you. Especially when the body has not yet acclimated to them (normally early in the season). I had a hike very similar to yours and when temps hit upper 90’s 10 miles in, on a 12 mile hike back to my vehicle, it took everything I had to finish. Uphill, and even fluids didn’t help after a while. Learned a good lesson that day about late starts. Thanks again Catherine. Btw, excellent camera work too.

Thank you Anthony. I was definitely struggling in that heat. It surprised me really. I had to stop often whenever I did find a slice of shade to cool down from overheating. It honestly would have been better for me to have either left in the late afternoon the prior day or waited until it would have been early evening before tackling that stretch. I kept thinking how thankful I was it wasn't hot during my Grand Canyon trip this year. I'm not sure I would have made it.

@oldjeeper2394

Catherine, no I don’t know of any 1 to 2 day back packing hikes. The park service allows it, but has quite a few regulations. Including packing out all solid human waste, no fires, and bringing all water. It’s so dry there they don’t want humans taking water away from the critters. I stayed at the Devil’s Garden campground, the only one in the park and then went on day hikes in this park and over at nearby Canyonlands National Park. Good hikes in Arches are Devils Garden, Delicate Arch and Park Avenue. Over at Canyonlands I hiked the Grand View Trail which is easy but very scenic and the Upheaval Dome loop that has a easy and harder loop. Canyonlands does have the 100 mile White Rim 4x4 loop road that has primitive campsites and hiking trails. Overnight permits are extremely popular and limited. I did a three day trip on this trail a few years ago and it was one of best experiences I have ever had off-road.

Thanks for this beautiful video. Brings back memories of my two backpacks down the Gulch. One more day's hike and you could have camped under a HUGE arcing overhang. It's the highlight of Coyote Gulch. And BTW, there is a place with a very tall (maybe 15") pictograph and if you climb up you can see a tiny Paute camp and there are still some little ancient corn cobs there and a piece of plaited corn husk. Amazing.

That was gorgeous - thanks for sharing. It's a bit unnerving having critters come by your tent in the night. I had a bunch of elk practically step on my tent last summer.
