caught me by surprise how quickly you recognized the beaver dam for what it was. rotten little beavers have made getting to my cabin a wet excursion sometimes. look into visiting canyon falls not far where you were here in this video.

I saw quite a few of them while paddling so I figured it had to be a dam lol. What a pain lol. How have I not heard of canyon falls? I just looked it up and it looks beautiful! I will check it out one day for sure. Thanks for the suggestion!

That area has some an interesting history. A large chunk of property was sold to the state by the Miller family, as in Miller High Life beer. The property included quite a few small lakes. As for the bugs, they can be really bad in May and June, but tend to ease up during the rest of the warm months. There are still two cabins on Craig Lake originally built by the Millers, now available for rent through Van Riper State Park. Nice facilities.

I read a little about it before the trip. Definitely an interesting history! This is my first time experiencing bugs to that extent but they weren’t bad enough to keep me from going back this time of year 😊 I would love to check out the cabins! I’ve seen a few videos of people staying in them and they look like very nice facilities

It's not the Ugly Stick, it's your reel and winding technique. Wrap your index finger over the line in front of the reel. That will help keep the line straight when it goes on the spool. Beautiful country, you've inspired me to explore more of the UP.

I just figured out I’ve been wrongfully blaming my fishing poles and most of my issues have been user error 🤦♀️. Thank you for the advice and the comment ☺️ the UP is absolutely beautiful

While I've camped with my family in many Michigan Parks, and have heard of Craig, you did a good job of introducing the area. I'd like to check out these more remote sites & fishing areas... Thanks! *I can look it up, but how easy is it to find open reservation dates?
@Apeaceofthewoods

Thank you!! You should definitely check it out if you get a chance. It’s my favorite place in Michigan so far. It actually isn’t too difficult to find open sites especially compared to some of the parks in the lower peninsula. The best sites do get reserved pretty quickly. I can’t remember if I said which site I was at in the video but I highly recommend site 20 if you can get it!
