My Rule is that Im never alone. My husband and i are usually together ; however, if we are not and im traveling, I still book for 2 people. And get 2 key cards. Whenever I leave the room , I say "bye, love you "like I usually would . Especially when people are near.

Brilliant tips, I have been traveling solo as a black woman long before YT, before social media,my first rule as a solo female traveler has been safety first and it has served me well over the years. Simple things like checking joint doors that are lockable from your room should be a must. As a solo woman traveler, I have never wanted room service,it`s just not comfortable being in a room with a stranger so I do make sure I eat at restaurants so that when I get to my room and lock the door, im not opening it again. I have subscribed to follow your journey.
@KitatheExplorer

That’s a great idea. I do room service a lot. But I usually open the door and stay at the door open while they deliver the food or have it dropped at the door.

Great tips as usual Kits. I think as a solo female traveling its so so important to read reviews to know exactly what to expect. Its crazy tat I've never thought about not asking for house keeping before, but it makes so much sense not to. Its just crazy for me to imaging someone cleaning my room and going through my stuff. 😣

Have been searching for safety tips as I will be traveling. I plan on bringing an empty travel spray bottle, couple gloves and buying the hottest peppers i can find in the country i will be visiting.(if pepper spray is illegal/unavailable:) then preparing a potent concoction of homemade pepper spray placed bedside in case someone does break into my door-jammed, loud noise-making item placed on the door before bedtime. That way i have something to protect myself with if i must fight. 😁

When checking into a hotel, avoid wearing any article of clothing that says that the solo traveler is from out of town. Even if the person is within their home state. (i.e. wearing a Dallas Mavericks or Cowboys t-shirt or a cap but the traveler is in a hotel in Houston.) No college, or pro teams clothing. Plain, and simple is the best. One person or a group, after a few drinks, sometimes, like to get chatty with a solo traveler, and mention that they use to live in Dallas or talk about the score of a past game, etc, or make plans to watch the upcoming game in the hotel bar, and an offer to buy drinks. Even if the solo traveler attended an all girls school, that traveler would not want to have unwanted attention from some guy who says their sister went to the same school. Plain and basic is the best. Thanks for reading. :)

I used to work for a large major company and security gave us the tip about the peephole. A peephole can be tampered with at ANY HOTEL from luxurious to budget. It’s definitely something to be mindful of. And I’m glad you enjoy housekeeping. It’s not for me for safety purposes and I like my room being me when I’m in there. Not being tampered with everyday. I don’t do that at home and I don’t need it at a hotel.
@ukelilly

bring one of those door/window alarm. Even tho I can stick it on the window or door, I can have it by me so I can pull them apart and the alarm will go off & hopefully that will scare the intruder away. Or get a personal alarm ( more expensive)
@ukelilly
Жыл бұрын
Also, I wrap some masking tape on a pen , etc , when I travel and take some out to cover the peep hole, to hold that "Dont Disturb" sign so it stays on those lever type of door knobs & cover that bright light from a hotel clock, phone or thermostat.
@ukelilly
Жыл бұрын
When you're checking out the room upon first walking in, and you closed the door ( so no one else walks in ), be sure to have someone on the phone with you so they can call the front desk if you're in danger. Better yet, phone someone uaing duo or similar ( video call) and you show them what you see as you check the place out. That way, they see the intruder's face too. Maybe they can record for you at the same time to save the video.
