Hills and Bass
12/1/2021 - 12/2/2021 Henry W. Coe State Park
This is my third backpacking trip and they've all been solo at Henry Coe State Park. I've been working my way up to tackle this loop and there were only a few nice days left before the cold starts settling in.
After watching Joey Allen Outdoors solo backpacking video • Backpacking and Fishin... , I gained some courage and created a route in AllTrails using the path he described in the comment section.

I tried out the Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60 for the first time. It worked awesome for my needs. The huge side pocket was perfect for storing the fishing rod, tackle, and tent poles. The lighter weight made it easier to handle compared to my first pack. The hipbelt pockets have plenty of room. The foam sit pad came in handy since the camp chair was left at home. My back did get very warm and sweaty but it was comfortable otherwise.
It was nice to finally visit Kelly Lake and Coit Lake. The fish were biting and both lakes have flat areas to pitch a tent. I visited three other ponds but most of the action was at the lakes.
While the hike was challenging, it was a rewarding experience. I can't imagine doing this in the scorching Summer heat but it should be nice in the Fall, Winter, and Spring.
