That tent is a modified version. The older model doesn't have flaps covering the zips and there's issues where the ground sheet and canvas meet at the corner's. Water ingress was always an issue.. This upgraded version looks like they've done their homework and finally got it rite. Nice simple designed tent with good functionality. Health to enjoy, good upload, thank you for sharing..👍

Hi David, yeah thought it was an upgraded version👍🏻I got lucky with it and in all honesty I dont know of anyone with the extra addons do you mate? yes I can agree to some extent! I love my lavvu and consider the dark inside to be a plus bonus if you wanted to catch some extra sleep, but this one is also a bonus in that if a lavvu owner bought a dutch one they then have both options, it will be nice to experience this if I buy one in the future, its also just nice to wake up in the lavvu not knowing whats happening outside then to find some glorious sunshine when parting the flaps... Cheers from London

Hi Paul, srry I'm late getting back to you as I've been driving most of the day.. Personally from what i can see with the leaking issues is that these tents vary considerably from one another....Each tent seems to have add ons that others do not. Very strange, all I can put it down to is modifications and updates in designs over the years. Mine has flaps over the zippers and many do not! Some seem almost incomplete. As far as the canvas leaking maybe some set ups are not as taught as they could be, and others are thining through wear. I also believe these tents were issued for warmer climates where rainfall is far less, noticed many of these when purchased are full of sand. I've fabsil mine and done it chemically, where as I could have done it naturally and seasoned the canvas outdoors.... another thing I believe you should never do is touch the canvas on the inside when wet on the outside as it draws moisture in through the fabric. Can't wait to get mine out in the rain over this winter Hope this helps my friend ... Have a super weekend Paul Atvb Mike

Looks like you have one of the newer tents. I've got two of them, from '92 i believe. The don't have the 'flaps' over the zipper like you'rs. Anyway, i like the look and room of these tents, especially when the two are zipped together. I nikwaxed them, just in case. Haha, seen some vid's while i already ordered the tents, so waterproofed them before using, but no problems so far.

Great tents mate but I've still to get one, always went light weight as a mile muncher but now I've got the new bike weight isn't an issue so I'll be looking for one.. I've got the German pup tent I customized but that leaks in heavy rain as it is still two poncho's and when it did leak I didn't have it good and taught at the time so might be ok but those Dutch ones are a beast and look top quality with a built in ground sheet. I wanna keep it old school as the bike I've got ready for touring now is a ww2 royal Enfield dispatch bike with plenty of luggage space for getting out camping on so the old school stuff will look good like oil and candle lamps, canvas that type of thing. Not done a vid on the new bike yet just a couple of Instagrams. Great vid as always buddy, be down your way for a camp when I'm all set up. Cheers

Hi mate👍🏻😊👍🏻🌳🌳🌳 Ah yes a Dutch army tent would be perfect for you on your travels, nice and retro to go with that beautiful bike that you've got👍🏻 Yes mate I remember the vid with your awesome modded pup tent, really cool. Yeah if canvas isn't taught it's more than likely to leak, another thing I've noticed is never to touch it from the inside when wet on the outside as it draws moisture in through the fabric. Yes it's very well made and built to last. Ah yeah can't beat the old school retro stuff, I know you love it too especially with that stunning bike👍🏻 candles or oil lamps give off such a comforting almost homely orange glow dont they. I’ve looked at these tents before, weight doesn’t bother me, I have a lavvu, so kinda used to it, what put me off was the vids I’ve seen regarding wet weather capability. Have you used it in wet weather yet, I’d be interested to see your side of things.....atb.......loving the channel👍

Hi 🌳🌳👋🏻😊👋🏻🌳🌳 Yeah mate the weight isn't so bad, it's the bulk that I find more of an issue than anything, I bought the tent purely for the location in the vid as it's only a short walk.👍🏻No mate I've yet to be out in the Dutch army tent in wet weather, main thing is that as you probably already know is to have canvas as taught as possible, never to touch canvas from the inside when wet on the outside as it can wick through. Also to have any zips to drain outward rather than inwards. From what I've seen of people having water issues is that their tents aren't as taught as they could be. Plus the condition of these tents varies greatly, it took a while to find one in good condition. I'll get a vid done through the winter in as torrential weather as I possibly can👍🏻😊👍🏻 Glad you like the channel mate, really nice of you to say and is really appreciated 👍🏻🌳🌳🌳🌳 Have a super weekend All the very best Mike

Hmmm, just watched Stuart’s video on his Dutch army tent, these were my concerns. I really hope there is an answer, because they look really good. @@macphadraig4154 Hahaha hi mate, yeah just watched Stuart's vid too👍🏻🌳🌳🌳 I really was hoping it'd rain when I filmed my vid, as you may know most of my vids have rain in them lol... Darn typical😔😊 Yes I shall definately be getting the Dutch army tent out in the rain, snow and wind. As soon as I can get the time I'll be out there, hopefully not getting soaked in that tent but lovely cosy and dry lol. Yeah was talking to Stuart about how I'd noticed how different these tents can vary from all the KZitem vids out there... Mine fortunately has flaps over the zippers and I believe Stuart's does not, even though his is a A1 grade like mine! Looks like the Dutch military did many versions/ upgrades over the years. Yes with canvas the trick usually is to get as much tension as possible and never to to touch the canvas from the inside as it can usually makes any moisture wick through from the outside to the inside...Yeah I put fabsil on mine, I'm not sure if I did the right thing in doing so as canvas should really be seasoned outside and let the fabric waterproof itself naturally rather than chemically. I promise I'm out there soon in this tent, can't wait to be honest Viper👍🏻 My next wild camp is planned very soon Have a good evening mate, great to hear from you Atvb Mike

Black Country Woodsman wow 7kg that’s a beast of a tent but like you say it will good for winter time being strong. I was out camping, luckily on an 8 acher woodland here in Sussex. I actually was glamping as I used a backpacker tent I got very cheap on mountain warehouse. Tent was great, sadly it’s around a foot to short. Kept waking with very cold feet pressed up against the end of it. My preferred shelter is my Dutch Army bivi. Super low profile & very stealthy. I’m currently using blue UCO paraffin candles. It has a bug repellent in it to keep mosquitoes away. Does seem to work, burn time of 9 hours. I did make a mistake on this camp though. I didn’t bring a frost protector for the underside of my cloudbase sleeping mat. Had a very cold back in the night & woke up very achey. Well cheers Mike Keep up the great videos

This must be some kind of new MK2 tent, Mine doesnt include a fair amount of these features, like for example mine doesnt have the little inserts for the poles at the top. it also doesnt have any velcro flap covering the zip, mine also has none of them guideline loops all over the exterior either, i mean in every other way they are exactly identical even right down to the pegs. but these are very nice quality of life improvments that have been made along its life. keep that in mind for anyone buying this type of tent, it looks like there are a few variations

Hi there👍🏻😊👍🏻 Ah cool to hear that you've come from BAFWTP channel welcome my friend.... I'll be completely honest with you and tell you to give it a miss with the recon 1 I've been out in it several times now and no matter what I do and how much I give that tent ventilation, I always get condensation build up on the inside. Admittedly it varys somewhat from camp to camp. Also the fly sheet is undersized to what I think it should be.... If I was looking for a great tent that's around the same price range, but maybe a fraction more expensive...Id definately purchase a Vango banshee 200 or even the 300 in my op you really can't get better than one of these for the money. I know I'm late, but if the weight of that tent, is the difference between you going 20 miles or you only going 2 miles? Don't blame the tent.
@xCodeView

Hi there, obviously if you're planning on going twenty miles then you'd not pick this type of canvas tent, something lighter in weight would be used covering a distance like that... But if you have only the Dutch army tent in your possession and no other options, then yes you'd have to use it but it'd be far from ideal. I bought my Dutch army tent for using it on camps where I dont have to travel far, as its ideal for me and the closer locations that I travel to. 👍😊👍🌳🌳🌳 Thank you for watching, hope you have a great weekend All the very best Mike

Hi mate great watch 👍In your opinion do you rate this tent over a lavvu ? What’s the best army tent you have used I own a lavvu and hooped bivi looking at a pup tent
@xCodeView
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, the version I have I dropped lucky with and it has all the updates- flaps over the zippers and no holes in the corners etc...So yes personally I prefer the Dutch army tent, but then I also love the lavvu too. Both tents have their positives and negatives I guess....In order: My personal favourite has to be the Dutch army tent, then the Polish arny lavvu and finally the German army pup tent. But all three are perfectly good tents and definately capable👍🏻 If I had the older version of the Dutch army tent I think I'd still prefer that over the lavvu and use a small tarp over the top of it. I like the light canvas inside the Dutch, and the ease of getting in and out of it. Thank you very much for watching and your kind words Richard 👍🏻😊👍🏻🌳🌳 🌳🌳🌳🕊🌳🌳🌳 All the very best Mike

Hi Mike, only just discovered your channel and really enjoyed this one on the Dutch army tent, I'm seriously thinking of purchasing one of these to do some camping with my little whippet. Was wondering if you have managed to get out and test it in wet conditions yet and if so how did it perform? Thanks for sharing your adventure and I have also subscribed so looking forward to more of your vids, all the very best.... Trev.

Hi Trevor, thank you very much indeed my friend, really nice of you👍🏻 Yes i managed to get out in the rain on another video, it wasnt really rough weather but pretty much rained continously throughout the night.. Mine has yet to leak on me, why dont you just carry a small tarp with you so you're guaranteed no leaks. Many people put a tarp up over their Dutch army tents. Hey if you do end up buying one make sure yours has fabric flaps over the zippers👍🏻These tents have been updated throughout the years. Thank you very much for watching and the sub Trevor, i really appreciate it. Here's a link to my camp in the Dutch army tent in moderate rain. @@xCodeView thanks for responding Mike - much appreciated. Looks like the tent you got has had aftermarket upgrades or is a new model. Extra guy rope tie points and storm flaps for the zips! It fixed all the common complaints people have with these tents. Good pick up for you.

Hi Malcolm, hey you're most welcome my friend....The tents (so I believe) have been continously modified throughout the production years, and I just got lucky with the one I picked up. Fingers crossed you can get hold of one with the updates, if not its no real bother to put up a small tarp above an older model. Good to hear from you 🌳🌳👍🏻🌳🌳 All the very best Mike
