Hi Erik, I have enjoy your passion and knowledge of the SE from viewing your presentation of this area of NSW. I live on the far south coast but spend time exploring the water ways of the Deua, Wadbilliga and state forests of the SE. I feel you would enjoy a easier walk in to these area. I know great valley where you can start your walk in at river level . No climbing down to access the this pristine wilderness. This valley / gorge is 16km long, running north to south down steam. You can park your 2 wheel drive car and enter at the junction of Woila creek and the Tuross river. You can get to this junction by turn off the Princess Highway at Bodalla where you get your cheese ( great cheese too) and travel west on graded roads for 40 km or you can drive in from the west from Cooma via Numeralla then the Badja forest road. From Canberra you can get there with in 3 hours or 3/4 of an hour from Bodalla turn off and start your hike at the river edge. I hope you go and explore this gorge with 100 meter granite escapement towering on both side of the Tuross.

hey Erik, been goin over your older videos, been having a great time. Not sure where you ended up with the bug net situation but the Paria Mesh bivy has been great for me so far, really roomy and the bathtub floor acts as a bit of water proofing and a ground sheet. Enough room for me and some gear, even my shoes. Got a mount laurel one but I haven't tried it yet. Love the little uco lantern, I think that kind of thing is great when you cant have a fire especially, just to add some good vibes.

Hey Dave, glad you're enjoying the back catalogue. I ended up with a Rab element 1 bug net - its a nice little option, although it only opens on 1 side which can limit set up options. I'll have to have a look at the Paria and MLD options you mention. Cheers mate

Hey Erik just wanted to say nice vid bro, I know life is hard and unforgiving but whenever you feel down and out, just keep at it, the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. always do your adventures for the love of it and YOUR own ENJOYMENT, not for the reviews cause people will ALWAYS be CRITICS not always nice ones but you will find when you go all in for your own love of the trip and adventure then you will be happier and enjoy the journey better also you may even get surprised people may even enjoy it more the way you want the vids to be presented, stay frosty from CANADA :-).

Great vid Erik, creepy crawler protection...mesh/no serum type gear with toggles to the ridge line and a sewn in bucket ground sheet in “A” frame - old tent config. Zip on either end to get in out. I reckon in a compress bag would get it small. Only thing is it would most likely reduce your tarp configurations. Just an idea. Thanks for the vid. Loved the spot. Great video Eric I just got myself a small tent for use in summer instead of the tarp, not so much for the snakes but the mozzie lol, also got a hammock on the way to try. Thanks Daryl - thought I replied to your comment this morning, but looks like I messed it up some how. Anyway, good luck with the hammock and tent, I enjoy both and yes it was only a matter of time before the mic took a dip! I really rate the mug from Alton Goods, when I first got it, thought I'd only use it occasionally, but it's been on every trip so far. Trick is to pack stuff in it, or slide it on the end of tent poles etc so it takes up less space in your pack. Thanks for watching. Cheers

@ERIKOFFTRACK
4 жыл бұрын
Great question, but I'm not sure actually. I've gone for a fairly long ridge line, probably around 10m. This gives me options (especially if tieing to bigger trees) and can easily gather any leftover over. I find a smaller diameter cord keeps better tension if you are setting up some prusik loops. Good luck!

Hey mate, ive wanted to try out some wild camping, I mainly stick to trail camp sites off just of tracks. How do you go about finding your spots? Do you just go in blind?
@ERIKOFFTRACK
2 жыл бұрын
Hey mate I started out small, i.e by hiking trails and then going off-track a little way to find a place to camp. This way I built up my skills and experience. Over time, I've learnt to be able to read the landscape by following things like streams, spurs and ridge lines and have been able to venture out further. I carry a GPS with imagery and have a back up (so I always know where I am) and other safety gear like a plb. I've had plenty of humbling experiences out there (even now) and its easy to get lost or disoriented. I spend a lot of time looking at maps and satellite imagery to find interesting places to explore, and 'll normally pick a spot to aim for and adjust if necessary. I definitely don't go in blind. Cheers Erik

Depends on where you go camping, but figure out which creepy crawlies are dangerous as a first step. I'm worried about snakes more than bugs. A fire helps keep the bugs away (if you are allowed to have one) and I normally wear long pants and a shirt. Good luck.
