A simple recommendation Mrs. Skipper: The cockpit teak, companionway frames and benches could use two coats of Linseed Oil, cheaper than Teak oil and performs the same function. Between the sun, salt and humidity they take their toll from the inside to out. P.S. New Zealand, there are many Dutch people living and working, almost all of them were sailors, now they are specialists in different areas. That says a lot about the Netherlands. Well done. 5⭐

Wow what an amazing episode once again… there is no words to describe your bravery…and you remind me my childhood 😂😂😂 pulling water in the bucket from well for bathing 😅😅😅
@StefanMochnacki
Күн бұрын
On a moving boat, there's a special trick in doing that. One drops the bucket in and pulls it backward, the open end facing aft, with the water flow, not against it. Doing it the intuitive way forward against the flow guarantees an immediately lost bucket! Jacqueline was obviously not worried about losing the bucket.

You know you're getting closer to NZ when the weather turns cold and nasty. Still, you'll have a great time there. If you are going to cruise the coast, go down the eastern side. The Tasman sea gets really wild, as does Cook Strait, which you will discover when going to the Marlborough sounds, which is a must see ! Still, plenty to see in the Bay of Islands before you head south. Enjoy !

And few harbours... while the river estuaries are treacherous. I grew up in New Plymouth. As for Cook Strait, I well remember a crossing on the "Wahine" circa 1967, with ten metre or so waves. I took a walk on the promenade deck for some fresh air, and a seaman suggested I go back inside with some dire words about how bad it was. In my shared cabin way down near the bow, the boat was shaking and vibrating. Didn't Sir Francis Chichester break his arm on Gypsy Moth IV around Cook Strait? And later Yves Gelinas got dismasted and stopped at the Chathams for repairs IIRC during his solo circumnavigation on an Alberg 30.

Good effort- 17 days is a long trip to get to Opua, NZ from Tonga. I note your trouble with your boom vang. I comment that you do not appear to have any sort of boom preventer on board and deployed. to assit you. Any thoughts. I use them with plenty of anchor deck points. Can save you having a broken boom at sea. Bob MacDavitt is very helpful on passenge planning, he is most useful. All the best for your stay and sailing in NZ. Lindsay ( in Nelson )

Well done that Lady !! For those of us only recently having been logged in.. the last few thousand miles..any chance of a recap on your boat, type, (and why), age, (the boat's :>), history.. ? What equipment you chose eg wind-vane and, in particular, why the hanked on foresail, familiar to my days as a professional delivery skipper, but that was 40 odd years ago ! Crawling along the foredeck in a near gale at 02:00 was just part of life.. but why now ?
