You can buy a heat deflector for it, that will help radiate the heat out.

Build the fire upside down. Big logs on the bottom, tinder on top. You will have a much cleaner more intense burn. This is designed to have the fire burn in a downward direction so it off gasses lower so the updraft takes the heat up the side walls. Also keep the wood below the top vent holes where that burning gas will shoot out making it smokeless essentially.

That’s not how Solo tell you to build the fire though!

You should definitely use the stand, or at least some bricks or something to elevate it off of the ground. I have the Bonfire fire pit and without the stand it scorched the lawn! The stand works so well that not only does it not scorch the grass, but I have used it on a wooden deck with no problem!

Enjoyed your tests.... I have the Campfire and the Titan, did the Titan bundle with the tripod, the pot, and wind screen... the pot and tripod are a great pair... the Titan is a good size for little wood, but so is the Campfire... the tripod chain is super adjustable... has used the pot and tripod over both stoves... great for rice... fast boil... set tripod aside while rice absorbs the water... rice fluffy... The Campfire is big enough to use a 12 inch steel wok on... found a barbeque melting that fits the wok and a round 12 inch enameled grate with removable handle that nests in the wok.... did a multi-layered chicken and veggies in the wok section steamed potatoes and salt and pepper in the top... kept the taters in well cooked chucks while I could set them aside and stirred the stuff in the bottom... I other words I really like the Campfire.... complete burns even using dried rotten pine in in it ... tested both with sticks and even scoops of store bought pellets for pellet stoves... they eat about any dried biofuel... Just ordered the pot for the Campfire 4 liters or about a gallon with folding handles and a bail like the smaller Titan pot...was also Debating the Ranger maybe with the stand and that new cast iron grill accessory... the use safe cooking woods and burn down to coals before grilling on it.. The camp stoves I have when I use crud wood, like the pine.. lids on pans for best flavor... cooking with dried apple sticks meat on a stick would be good for the apple wood flavor... I get a lot of apple wood and cherry wood in pruning my fruit trees... liking the Ranger in time I think.

Yeah they would be awesome for cooking, I'll have to try my hand at cooking over the Ranger.

@@AmateurAtBest I have used a carbon steel wok over a modified cast iron chimera that focuses heat up a shorter chimney, used c-clamps to set the wok on.... focused hot fires are more or less what wok cooking focuses on.... the prep for stir-fry is necessary because the cooking process is so fast in a hot wok... did rice cooking over the Titan and the Campfire in the closed camp pot...water/rice to a boil and set out of way to get fluffy in 20 minutes off fire.... rice and stir-fry make a nice combo... The Solo stove fire pits have a little different design from the camp stoves from the info on site... the focused for higher temperature burns to reduce smoke... the stand off and cast iron grill addition is an interesting add on to catch the people who want to fire pit cook... that higher focused heat and wok cooking should be a good pairing... on that stand off... we get burn bans for a lot of our summers here.... air quality issues being in a big bowl... and the wildfires the whole west coast has issues with each year lately.... so I keep looking at the possible in the coming fall season... just got the 4000 pot with lid and bail on it... 4 liters or about a gallon pot brings ideas to mind hot oil cooking... French fries... I don't mess with hot oil in side house... but in a clear area outside it looks attractive to explore either with Campfire or Ranger...
