Really enjoyed watching this video. I appreciate your philosophy on taking the resources and using them appropriately. When I first started viewing this I thought it was another "Let-me-show-you-how-many-squirrels-I-can-kill" video and just leaving them. We are to be stewards of the land and thank you for using the furs and feathers and eating what you kill. Just a suggestion that you put that message at the start of your videos, unless you did and I just missed it. Well filmed even with your glitches. Subbed.

Late season squirrel hunting is not easy anywhere. I sometimes have more luck getting within 50 yards of white tail deer after the leaves have fallen. I use a small shotgun when the foliage is still up. It's getting too populated in my area to safely shoot rim-fire rifles into the trees. My plan is to get a .25 cal for tree ratting before the leaves fall next Autumn.

Excellent video Brother . You eat what you kill and use the skin as well . Nothing is wasted = The sign of a true woodsman . Your bait stations are interesting . My bait is made from peanuts - raisins - peanut butter and held together with melted suet / kidney fat from beef or sheep . Molded into small "bricks" and attached to the tree with chicken wire and staples or small nails . Have you ever heard of a "puffer" ? Simply a cotton sock filled with very fine wood ash . I squeeze or "puff" the sock and the ashes tell me wind direction . A puffer can be thrown against a tree 10 meters away . This tells me minor to major wind direction for adjusting a shot and also tells me if I am up or down wind from an animal . All the best to you Andy and hope you keep making videos . From rattle snake country New Mexico -> Lefty

Cheers Lefty, that bait sounds awesome! I made a simular bait this morning... Peanut butter, dirt and sunflower seeds rolled up into balls. I set 50 squirrel snares. Hopefully I'll have me a few over the next day or so. I'll defantly try your recipe next time. I could do with one of them puffers once I start hunting bigger game over hear in Bulgaria. Thanks for the tips. I never ended getting much from the bait stations. I get to restless and always prefer stalking anyways. It's much more fun! Thanks for watching and beautiful country your in brotha. atb, Andy

Clan Gunn Bushcraft I may talk funny to you but it's because I am from the states (Wisconsin) . For someone to get kudos from the famous Nick King, AKA: The Squirrel Hunter, I knew that there had to be something very special about this video. Nick is someone that I look up to as he, and his bro, are true professional hunters with the same attitude that I have which is, "One Shot - One Kill" and I see that you too are this way. Sure there are times when the varmint will move but as professionals we do the right thing and take the extra shot or two just to be humane. Keep yup the good work and I have subscribed to your videos as I anticipate to see more from you. ^5 Dennis

+Compilation 822 Where in the world are you? Different countries have different rule systems. I can only vouch for the UK, but hear there's no licence needed to kill squirrels, doesn't matter if your eating them or not. Hear, their classed as pests / vermin, no different to rats. There an invasive speices and have very little legal protection. We can shoot, trap and poison them. There's no hunting season for them either. I'd imagine in most countries, your land = your Squirrels.

Hey man nice to hear back from you. I suppose the laws in Scotland are different to England but it's something I'm going to look into. Yeah, big difference in rules, but I bet 99% of English wild camp videos hear on YT have no permissions. Think they call it stealth campin, basically find a quiet hidden spot. As long as peeps clear up after themselves, I don't see the problem. Yes the spring snares work well, I use to clear a few farms & they always worked well. Rarely found one triggered without a critter hanging from it, but there only really practical if you don't have snare wire. A good old wire snare & peg is best. Use to set 80-100 a day & always got more from the snares than I would with the rifle. Predators an awesome film, been craving predator 2 ever since :) Ment to go back out to record another three nighter today, but the weather's terrible. I'm not bothered by the rain, but it's horrid trying to record init, so I'm holding out till Monday. Cheers Paul Andy

That's a great video, thank you for taking the time to realise it. I have a question for you: where do you take the wood for your wild camp? Do you gather the dead branches or the ones on the living trees? If so do you take down trees around your camp or a few yards away? What is the best area to pick wood without disturbing animals and making them running away so you can shoot them later? Keep doing these awesome videos and sorry for my bad english :)

+MrLeozwozwo Thanks buddy, I'm glad you enjoyed my video. This was the first video I posted on my channel. Check out my more recent wild camps if you get chance. There a little more detailed and better filmed. A few of the structures at my permanent camp are made from green wood (live wood), but for the fire, I tend to look for dead standing branch's and trees. It's very wet in Scotland, and anything on the floor tends to be sodden wet. But then again, even wet wood is usually dry inside, and split wood burns much better than wood that's not split. Cheers Andy

+Clan Gunn Bushcraft I started off with an old daystate huntsman mk2. It's was over 12 years old when I bought it but it's a brilliant accurate rifle, spot on. The only problem with it is it is a really heavy old thing, I've got arthritis in my hand and found it hard to carry for long periods. so I switched to a much smaller and lighter rifle. now I've got an air arms s 200 and I'm really impressed with it.

@ClanGunnBushcraft
9 жыл бұрын
+Jaimie Currie You should brotha, springers are great hunting tools when your campin out in the bush. I'd defantly recommend the Stoeger X20, there cheap & shoot hard n straight. Iv bagged dozens of Squirrels, Rabbits, Woodys & Pheasants with it. Think I paid about £190 for it, but there goin for around £110-120 nowadays (rifle only) Bargin mate!! Plus good little feature is ya don't need a spring compressor to remove the mainspring. Just don't get the suppressed version of the X20, the silencer effects the power & accuracy big time. Iv had them side by side & the suppressor versions shite!! In my last two camp - hunt vids iv used my BSA Lightning xl se. Very nice rifle now it's broken in, but pricey for a springer, approx £360. The BSA Meteor mk 7 is a good cheap springer tho, you should have a ganders at that too, approx £140. Cheers bud A

In the area I hunt there's an organisation called Red Squirrels in South Scotland that urges people to cull the greys so we can re-introduce our reds. They lend you equipment, traps etc to kill the greys. Greys are pests in urban areas & farms because they cause a lot of damage to property & buildings. They are rodents & no different to having rats on your property. they'll chew through the soffets & nest in attics. The ones i'm hunting are wild squirrels, but I think they can still be classed as pests!? They cause damage to the woodland, they scare away other wild life, mainly birds. They kill & eat their own, reds, birds & raid birds nests & eat the birds young. Pretty nasty critters. Cheers Andy

Cheers Brotha. Originally from Stranraer, but moved to Derbyshire as a boy. I make the drive back home every 2-3 weeks, spend most of my spear time around Galloway forest area. Thanks Andy

No problem Andy, I'm literally 20 minutes from Loch Lomond. I've not camped up there for a few season's now. Most of my trips where done by boat though, as I was salmon fishing. Be sure to check the camping situation before heading up. I've heard their is a total ban on camping at the loch side. Due to the littering morons of the summer. It is a truly stunning place though Andy. You could possibly do part of the West Highland Way, where you will be able to use your hammock. You might even get a chance to spot some of the wild goats or smell them lol! Looking forward to the footage.

Brian McGrath Nice one. your a lucky guy living so close. Salmon fishing from your boat sounds awesome. the place is famous for it. The picture on my channel page is from a trip to Loch Lomond last October. The ban on camping loch side sucks, but it wont deter me. I cleared up a few old fire pits last time I was there. to many disrespectful people. Iv got a really secluded spot at Lomond, you should check it out... From the B837 take the road up the east side of the lock, pass Milarrochy bay & the sailing club, then take the 2nd left after Shepherds house B&B. That takes you up to an Ecology college, pass it & drive up the only track, you can park at the top. There's 3 amazing little sandy coves along the left side of the track & at the top is a large beach where you can fish for salmon straight off the rocks.
